After failing to secure promotion to the Premier League, there are doubts about the future of Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom according to a report from Football League World.
What is Chuba Akpom's situation at Middlesbrough?
Akpom was the surprise package of the Championship season after being reintegrated into the fold at Boro. Originally the belief was the Englishman would leave after a loan spell to Greek side PAOK Salonika the previous season.
However, injuries and depth issues meant that then-manager Chris Wilder turned to Akpom to lead the line, and the 28-year-old never looked back, especially following the arrival of former Manchester United assistant manager Michael Carrick.
The forward scored 28 goals and assisted two in 40 games in the division, with 24 coming under his new manager, as Middlesbrough finished in fourth place. It earned Akpom a sport in the Championship Team of the Season, whilst he also won both the Golden Boot and Championship Player of the Season.

Despite his incredible form under Carrick, it wasn't enough to fire the club to promotion, with Boro experiencing play-off heartbreak at the hands of Coventry City, losing 2-1 across two legs.
Midway through the season, the former Arsenal man was the subject of interest from a number of clubs including Everton, Southampton and Crystal Palace, according to the Daily Mail, however, the northeast outfit exercised the one-year extension clause in the player's contract, taking his current deal to the summer of 2024.
Will Chuba Akpom leave Middlesborough this summer?
Football League World reports that the Boro striker will be 'gettable' this summer when it comes to a transfer as the club will not want to risk losing the player for free following the expiry of his contract next summer.
Middlesbrough forward Chuba Akpom.
Due to missing out on promotion, it is reported that Middlesbrough will have to sell players this summer in order to fund Carrick's transfers this summer, much like their situation from the previous summer, which resulted in the sales of Marcus Tavernier to Bournemouth and Djed Spence to Tottenham Hotspur.
According to Alan Nixon on Patreon, the contract extension that was triggered in January does very little to secure the striker's long-term future at Boro, with the Championship side set to demand a fee of £15m, to part ways with their Player of the Season, who was hailed as "remarkable" by journalist Oluwashina Okeleji for his domestic exploits this term.
If Carrick and co were to lose the former Arsenal youngster, then it would certainly be a massive blow to their chances of going one better next season. Of course, his goals would leave behind a major void but as Boro's highest-rated player, per WhoScored figures, his influence right across the frontline will be felt, having also ranked second for dribbles per game and fifth for key passes per game too.
It is expected that the majority of clubs that held an interest in the 28-year-old will return this summer, and Akpom may well get his chance at the Premier League level for the first time in his career.
With the one-day series against Australia decided, South Africa are likely to rest Kagiso Rabada in an effort to manage the 21-year old fast bowler’s workload.Since the beginning of 2016, no frontline paceman has played as many matches as Rabada’s 27 although his actual number of overs is lower than some of his contemporaries, such as Chris Woakes, Trent Boult and Josh Hazlewood, who have played more Test cricket in the period.Following the current series, South Africa travel to Australia for three Tests before returning home for a full visit by Sri Lanka which is followed by a tour of New Zealand.Rabada, who also had a brief spell with Kent during the English county season, will be expected to play a key role throughout that period and Russell Domingo, South Africa’s coach, is wary of not pushing him too hard. Dale Steyn, who conceded the most expensive figures by a South Africa bowler in ODIs during the high-scoring Durban encounter, may also be given a breather.”We need to consider the two fast bowlers, Dale and KG [Rabada], they have played all three games and Kagiso in particular has played a lot of cricket over the last year so it might be an opportunity to give him a break because there is a lot of cricket to come in the next couple of months,” Domingo said.South Africa will be without their hero from Durban, David Miller, for the final two matches of the series due to the groin injury he picked up during his unbeaten century. The fact the injury has curtailed his participation adds further kudos to his display at Kingsmead where he hauled South Africa to the second-highest successful ODI chase with an unbroken stand of 107 alongside Andile Phehlukwayo. The performances of Phehlukwayo, who also claimed 4 for 44 in the opening match of the series, has been one of the pleasing aspects of the series for Domingo as South Africa try to bolster their all-round options.”Allrounders are massively important to have and something we possibly haven’t had for the last two or three years,” he said. “There are four in the mix at the moment with Wayne Parnell, Chris Morris, Adile and Dwaine Pretorius all there or thereabouts so it’s very pleasing to have that depth in our batting line-up. They have earned their spots based on good domestic performances.”Another notable aspect of the series win has been it has come without the injured AB de Villiers while Hashim Amla has only played a bit-part role having been ill for the first match – where Quinton de Kock’s 178 led South Africa’s canter to a substantial target of 295 – and was controversially omitted in Johannesburg before he returned in Durban with an agenda-setting 45 off 30 balls to launch the chase.”Hash and AB’s records have been unbelievable so to win and chase down scores without those players is very pleasing and showing some of the younger guys are stepping into the breach,” Domingo said. “It’s always important to have the next tier of players performing well.”
Glasgow Rangers finished their Scottish Premiership campaign with a 3-0 victory against St Mirren, with Michael Beale’s side ending the season positively.
The Ibrox crowd said their farewells to the likes of Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Allan McGregor, Filip Helander and Scott Arfield during their midweek draw against Hearts and the manager rotated the first team for this afternoon's tie, bringing back Robby McCrorie into the starting XI.
Rangers were bright in the opening exchanges, with Ianis Hagi dictating play by operating as a false nine, and it’s evident that the club have missed his creativity at times this season, especially during their dismal Champions League showings.
It took half an hour for the first goal, when Fashion Sakala cut inside from the left-hand side to slot a calm finish into the net to make it 1-0. He doubled the lead with his second just after halftime and the game eventually finished 3-0 to the visitors.
Sakala was clinical during his spell on the pitch, scoring twice while succeeding with two of his four dribble attempts, winning 50% of his total duels and ending his game with a 100% pass success rate, and he could still have a future at the Ibrox side next term on this form.
It was an impressive showing, yet it was Ridvan Yilmaz who took his opportunity vs St Mirren today.
How did Ridvan Yilmaz perform for Rangers today against St Mirren?
The Turkish defender hasn’t enjoyed the best of seasons, missing 29 games through injury, yet he managed to take his opportunity well today, with sections of the media praising him.
The Rangers Review journalist Joshua Barrie lauded the youngster, writing on Twitter: “Think Ridvan’s taken his chance well these past few games after a tricky season. Really impressive pass through the gap for Sakala to break the deadlock.”
Yilmaz received a rating of 7.6/10 for his performance against the Paisley outfit, showcasing his attacking abilities which proves he could well be an ideal heir to Borna Barisic.
The 22-year-old registered two assists for both of Sakala’s goals, while he also created one big chance, played two key passes, attempted one dribble and delivered two crosses, indicating that he was regularly bombing up and down the left flank with purpose.
Ridvan Yilmaz
He also managed 56 touches throughout and his passing was virtually spot on, achieving a 92% pass success rate while succeeding with all three of his long balls. And although he clearly didn’t have much to do defensively, Yilmaz still won one duel, made a clearance and wasn’t dribbled past once during his time on the pitch.
Next season will be massive for the youngster, and he has certainly given Beale food for thought over the previous few weeks, that’s for sure.
Mark Wood has been ruled out of England’s tour to India after the discovery that he bowled at the tail end of the English domestic season with a broken ankle
David Hopps09-Oct-2016Mark Wood has been ruled out of England’s tour to India after the discovery that he bowled at the tail end of the English domestic season with a broken ankle. It all means that Wood faces a third ankle operation within a year and, however optimistic the prognosis, it is bound to cast doubts on the resilience of England’s fastest bowler and invite concerns about his career both at county and England level.Wood had already been ruled out of the one-day and Test series in Bangladesh and his hopes of recovering in time for the India tour were banished when it was discovered that he fractured a bone in his left ankle when bowling in a Specsavers County Championship match against Surrey in September. With Durham under threat of relegation, he chose to ignore warning signs that something was wrong and battled on gamely. Durham stayed up, but it all came to naught when the ECB relegated them anyway after reluctantly intervening to prevent their bankruptcy.England’s national physiotherapy lead Ben Langley put an optimistic slant on Wood’s recovery, taking comfort from the fact that the injury is different to the one that required two earlier operations.”Woody showed his commitment to Durham with the way he bowled 35 overs in that Surrey game, and we know now that he also showed a hell of a lot of courage and resilience,” Langley said.”His foot and ankle swelled up hugely during the game, which was obviously worrying, and then we were perplexed when nothing significant showed up on the first scan.”It was only when we got him in for a second scan that we discovered he’d been playing on despite having fractured a bone.”So it’s a different injury to what he’s had the previous surgery for, and there’s no reason to think that when he’s had this bone fragment removed, he won’t be able to get back to bowling as well he has for Durham, England Lions and England in the second half of the 2016 summer.”Wood has been awarded a central Test contract by England for 2016-17 – without such an award it would have been questionable about whether Durham could have afforded his salary so soon after requiring a financial bailout from the ECB – but his ability to fulfil a full international summer remains unproven. He made a blistering comeback in the second half of the summer, delivering some of the most potent fast-bowling spells of the season as he helped Durham’s to the final of the NatWest T20 Blast and also featured in England’s 4-1 victory over Pakistan in their one-day international series. He bowled more than 200 overs in all competitions, purportedly without ill effects, but when he pulled out of the Bangladesh tour the problems became evident. Concerns can only have deepened with the latest news.

Leeds United are a huge club, that many would agree should be in the Premier League. However, nothing in this sport is a given, and status must be earned no matter how prestigious an establishment may be.
However, it is this size that retains their immense pull, as players will still want to move to Elland Road knowing that being their promotion hero would see them become an instant fan favourite.
Therefore, this could suggest that the Whites are in for a big summer of vast revolution, and yet some of the key components of a Championship-winning team already remain in Yorkshire too.
Whilst plenty of the squad will likely seek an exit, their academy is instead laden with all the talent needed to maintain their levels on a much smaller budget.
In fact, returning from one hugely successful loan spell is youngster Cody Drameh, fresh from his playoff-winning exploits at Luton Town.
Despite being just 21 years old, his promotion expertise could prove invaluable in ensuring the Whites can achieve a similar feat.
How good is Cody Drameh?
In unleashing this youngster into the first team now, it would surely finally mark the exit of Luke Ayling from the first team.
The 31-year-old has been consistently poor for years now, having looked hopelessly out of his depth in the top flight. A 6.61 average Sofascore rating for the 2021/22 term was somehow worsened in the most recent campaign, with his 69% pass accuracy showcasing a defender stuck in the dark ages.
Meanwhile, in the league below, Drameh had been shining for the Hatters, recording a 7.09 average rating. His key attributes all suggest him to be the future of this club, as the perfect modern-day full-back who boasted 1.6 key passes, 3.1 tackles and 2.1 clearances per game, via Sofascore.
This technical proficiency combined with the relentless energy his youth provides further pronounces him as the outstanding option, with his former boss Steve Morison suggesting: "He is like a Duracell Bunny, isn't he? He just keeps going and going."
luke-ayling-leeds
To compare that with the lazy exploits of Ayling, who allowed Harry Kane to ghost in unmarked for his first on their final-day thrashing to Tottenham Hotspur and went viral for his lack of effort in preventing a goal against Bournemouth. Indeed, they are worlds apart.
Whilst reports have been linking their bright young superstar with a move away, Andrea Radrizzani would do well to keep ahold of Drameh, knowing that his new boss would surely want to put him in the side.
With quality, energy, youth and fresh experience at demolishing the Championship all on his side, at last, Ayling can be ditched now a viable alternative has arrived.
Presenter Terry Flewers has claimed that idea that Manchester United might not be able to sign Kim Min-jae this summer is just "scaremongering".
What are the latest MUFC transfer rumours?
It's been well reported that the Red Devils are hoping to sign the Napoli defender and may even be able to land him for just £42m (via reports from Italy) thanks to a clause in his contract.
However, a recent report in The Mirror claims that Erik ten Hag's transfer plans are "paralysed" as the takeover saga continues to rumble on without being resolved.
This could then halt Man United from making a move for Kim in time to trigger that clause which is only available for a short period during July.
What's more, reports in Portugal (via The Express) claim that Newcastle United are now in the race for the South Korean star.
However, while talking about it all on The Football Terrace, Flewers has insisted that Ten Hag and co will "will buy big this summer" regardless of the takeover.
He explained (4:49): "Man United will have anywhere between £200m to £250m to spend this summer – that's there, that exists.
"Man United fans, I think, have got to pull away from this scaremongering tactic from the media.
"And the reason I say scaremongering, one article this morning in The Mirror states that Kim Min-jae is done and the club now negotiating for Victor Osimhen. In the same very breath, they're stating that the transfer plans are paralysed.
"The chief European football writer and the chief football writer are clearly getting two different sides of the story.
"But of course one is trending and the other one isn't because negativity around Man United sells.
"For me, look whether the sale goes through or not, they will either be an investment into the club or a full sale. One of those two things is going to happen. Either way, the club is going to have money.
"There's the Champions League money that's coming in, and players are going to be sold. Man United will buy big this summer, will buy quality this summer and investment will be made.
"There's no such thing as paralysed transfer talks at Manchester United right now in my personal opinion."
How much can Man Utd spend this summer?
As Flewers points out there have been reports in Italy (via The Mirror) that a deal for Kim is already done and the club are now trying to focus on Osimhen.
With that in mind, it's easy to see why he's sceptical of just who to trust when there are so many conflicting reports in the media – such is the nature of the transfer market.
After all, they've been linked with some top players – such as the aforementioned Napoli duo – but reports also claim they have just about £100m to spend, due to financial fair play rules.
All in all, it's hard to know what to believe but with Champions League football secured, and some top targets wanted, it's hard not to see United spending big this season regardless of what happens with their ownership. Though some players may have to go first to help ease those financial fair play rules.

PSL chairman Najam Sethi has announced that the final of the second edition of the league will be held in Lahore in March 2017

The final of the 2017 Pakistan Super League will be held in Lahore, according to PSL chairman Najam Sethi, who made the announcement during the player draft in Dubai on Wednesday. The remaining matches in the tournament will be played in the UAE in February and March 2017 as scheduled.ESPNcricinfo had reported in August that the PCB had asked the Punjab government to initiate a process to stage the match in Lahore, which will likely be played on March 9. The Punjab government has reportedly given the PCB permission to host the match and has alerted security agencies to take necessary measures.”The second edition of the PSL, with five teams in the competition, will be more successful and the final will be held in Lahore,” Sethi, who is also the head of the PCB executive committee, said. “International players know what we can do; most of them are ready to come to Pakistan and play. We have signed players with a condition that if their team reaches the final, they will have to go to Lahore and they have all agreed.”It will be a fly-in, fly-out plan and the government has promised to give full security to the players. We are convinced that the final will happen in Lahore.”On Wednesday, 414 players were placed in the draft for the second edition. The five franchises signed on 17 new players between them, including former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum and England’s limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan. McCullum went to Lahore Qalandar, while Morgan was signed by Peshawar Zalmi.Earlier this year, the PCB bought four bulletproof buses as part of its effort to provide the “best possible arrangements” in terms of security for players visiting the country. The PCB relies heavily on the government for security arrangements for visiting teams and the bulletproof buses, first proposed during the chairmanship of Zaka Ashraf in 2012 and sanctioned last year, were bought as an additional safety measure for teams travelling within the city.Pakistan has been untenable as an international venue ever since terrorists attacked the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in March 2009. Zimbabwe became the first Full-Member nation to visit Pakistan since that incident, but the ICC refused to send its match officials for the series in May 2015.Pakistan then appointed their own match officials, and hoped the Zimbabwe series would serve as a stepping stone to revive international cricket in the country. That ambition, however, suffered a setback when a suicide attack took place near the Gaddafi Stadium during the second ODI. Zimbabwe played the third and final ODI two days later and completed the tour, but the PCB failed to convince any other side to visit the country since.
Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane will sit down with the expected new Spurs boss, Ange Postecoglou, to hold talks over where his future lies in north London.
Who is Ange Postecoglou?
The managerial search in N17 is seemingly coming to a close with Daniel Levy believed to have found his man in the Celtic manager Postecoglou.
Indeed, reports have suggested the Australian has now agreed personal terms with the Premier League club just hours after completing the treble with the Bhoys.
It is now believed that it is only the final details which will need to be ironed out with Celtic to overcome in order to see the 57-year-old become the new manager at Spurs.
However, Postecoglou has a huge task on his hands as the Lilywhites appear to be in need of a major rebuild following a dreadful 2022/23 campaign.
And one of the major issues hanging over the club at the moment is the future of their star player, Harry Kane, who has just one year remaining on his current deal.
With the Australian now looking set to become the new Spurs boss, Fabrizio Romano has told his YouTube channel that Postecoglou will hold behind-the-scenes talks with Kane in an attempt to keep him:
"But what is very clear also is that Daniel Levy is still prepared to fight for Harry Kane. He will try once he will have a new manager, conversations will take place with Postecoglou to convince Harry Kane, to keep Harry Kane at the club. So Tottenham will try again in the next days."
Could Kane leave Spurs?
The England captain's future appears to be at a real crossroads this summer with a number of clubs believed to be interested amid his dwindling contract.
Indeed, it is believed the likes of Manchester United have identified him as a priority signing for the summer window as Erik ten Hag searches for a new striker.
However, interest from abroad has also increased over recent days with reports suggesting Real Madrid will look to Kane as their potential replacement for the departing Karim Benzema.
Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou
Two of the world's biggest clubs could, therefore, be on the hunt for Kane's services this summer but it seems Spurs are not willing to potentially lose him without a fight.
But is Postecoglou a big enough name to convince Kane to stay?
The Australian has enjoyed a brilliant spell at Parkhead having won a bag full of trophies over his two years in the job.
However, this potential move to north London would be the 57-year-old's first job in one of Europe's top five leagues which could leave a lot of uncertainty for the England captain.
Kane will turn 30 years old over the coming weeks and whether he is willing to invest his time in this expected rebuild at Spurs under a manager who is not proven at this level is yet to be seen.
