Klopp Eyeing Gini 2.0 As Liverpool Push For £43m "Greatest Talent"

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp remains interested in Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenberch as he continues to reassemble the Anfield side's midfield.

Are Liverpool signing Ryan Gravenberch this summer?

That's according to German publication SPORTBILD, which claims that the Premier League outfit are considering returning for the Dutchman after registering an interest earlier this year.

While reports differentiate, it is claimed that Liverpool may have to shell out as much as €50m (£43m) to secure the 21-year-old's signature, with the Bavaria giants having signed him from Ajax for €24m (£20m) one year ago.

The Reds have already signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai this summer, with negotiations for Southampton's defensive midfielder Romeo Lavia also occuring, but could move for another central star to restore the balance.

What position is Ryan Gravenberch?

While Gravenberch will have arrived at the Allianz Arena jubilant and raring to go at one of Europe's pre-eminent outfits, the 2022/23 campaign proved to be anything but fruitful for the midfielder, on a personal level.

Gravenberch made 33 appearances for Bayern across all competitions, winning the Bundesliga title and the German Super Cup, but only started three times in the league, very much enshrouded in obscurity.

It's worth remembering that he is at the early stage of what hints at developing into a fantastic career, and made the leap to one of the most imperious outfits in football, but such a peripheral role will unquestionably leave Gravenberch demanding assurances over his role.

The season prior, 21/22, the ace starred for Ajax as one of the most prodigious starlets the club have seen in recent years, recording an average Sofascore rating of 7.17 in the Eredivisie, completing 86% of his passes, averaging 1.1 key passes per game and 1.6 tackles per outing – former Ajax forward Wim Kieft has even hailed him to be the country's "greatest talent".

An industrious and assured presence on the ball, the 11-cap Dutchman could emulate his compatriot Gini Wijnaldum and earn an untouchable starting berth at Anfield.

ryan-gravenberch-newcastle-united-transfer-news-opinion-premier-league

Wijnaldum completed a £25m transfer to Liverpool from Newcastle United in 2016, one year on from the indefatigable ace's departure from Dutch side PSV, and would be pivotal to the illustrious success on Merseyside under Klopp's management, even dubbed "irreplaceable" by writer Richard Jolly.

Wijnaldum plied his trade with perfect precision and care, an unwavering middleman between the defensive and final third and a true stalwart for the club, with his energy levels the turbo-charged engine for Klopp's high-octane system – a view shared by former Feyenoord boss, Gertjan Verbeek:

"His work ethic is very high, always working hard, always stable. He's the leader, not only in talking, but how he plays in the game."

And having never dropped a pass success rate in the Premier League for the Reds below 87%, he was the metronome and left Anfield a legend after forging 237 appearances, notably instrumental in winning the Premier League and Champions League.

Big boots to fill, but Gravenberch has demonstrated the rounded scope of his skill set already, ranking among the top 7% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for shot-creating actions, the top 24% for progressive passes, the top 18% for successful take-ons and the top 27% for tackles per 90, as per FBref.

While the lion's share of the listed metrics are not quite second to none, they illustrate the expansive style of his craft, and just how refined the £151k-per-week conductor could become, if offered a prominent role.

Liverpool might just be able to offer him that.

While he does not waltz into the Merseysiders' starting XI, he boasts the tools to build a successful Premier League career for himself, and the Kop might sing Gravenberch's name in adulation to rival Wijnaldum's in the future – Klopp now needs to get it done.

Man United Transfer Update On Kylian Mbappe

Manchester United are still in the race for Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe, with a recent report from Spain now revealing he could be set to turn down a move to one of Europe's top clubs…

Is Kylian Mbappe leaving PSG this summer?

After scoring against Toulouse on Saturday, Mbappe said "I am staying here", putting an end to the speculation about him leaving PSG this summer, however he does not want to remain at the Parc des Princes beyond this season.

The French club do not want to lose their star player on a free transfer next summer, with just one year remaining on his contract, but he has so far been unwilling to commit to an extension, potentially opening up the door for a move elsewhere.

Since the beginning of the summer transfer window, the France international has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, with PSG of the belief he has already agreed to sign for the Spanish club in 2024, but there may be another option on the table.

According to reports from Spain (via TEAMtalk), the 24-year-old could move to Old Trafford in the January transfer window, after continuing with PSG in the meantime, with the player and his mother seriously weighing up his future in France.

The former AS Monaco man is well aware he can continue to make a lot of money if he stays with the French club, but he could also pack his bags to join Man United, and become the club's new "franchise star" as they try to dethrone Manchester City.

Those are the two options on the table for the forward at the moment, as he feels let down by Real Madrid not coming forward with a strong enough proposal to sign him, despite president Florentino Perez's long-term goal of taking him to the Bernabeu.

How many goals has Kylian Mbappe scored?

Despite still being relatively young, the Paris-born striker has already racked up an incredible number of goals for both club and country, netting a total of 240 goals across 321 games for PSG and AS Monaco.

The former AS Monaco man has also been prolific for his national side, netting 40 goals in 70 appearances for France, leading them to their triumph in the 2018 World Cup, while also playing a big part in them reaching the 2022 final.

Lauded as "world-class" by former teammate Neymar, the France captain would evidently be a good signing for any top European club, but they will need to be willing to fork out an astronomical amount on wages.

Mbappe is currently tied down to a £1.2m-per-week contract at the Parc des Princes, which is nearly quadruple the amount of any player in the Man United squad, so it does not seem likely he will be on his way to Old Trafford in January.

Having been reintegrated into the first team, the France star is seemingly happy to stay at PSG for the time being, before completing his dream move to Real Madrid next summer.

SA club cricketer slams record 490 in 50-over match

Shane Dadswell, an opening batsman for NWU Pukke Cricket Club, ran up 490 off 151 balls, with 57 sixes and 27 fours, to amass the highest individual score in a minor limited-overs match

Firdose Moonda22-Nov-2017A South African club cricketer has broken the record for the highest individual score in a minor limited-overs match when he smashed an astonishing 490 runs from 151 balls. Opening batsman Shane Dadswell, who plays for NWU Pukke Cricket Club, beat the previous record, held by Indian batsman S Sankruth Sriram, who made 486 for JSS International School in the 2014-15 season.Dadswell, who also celebrated his 20th birthday on the day of his record-breaking feat last Saturday, described it as “the best day of my life,” and admitted to having an “attacking nature,” after also scoring 126 off 38 balls the previous weekend. His 490 included 57 sixes and 27 fours.”Honestly, it’s not even something you dream about. You dream about a double hundred, so to get 400-odd is a really special moment on a special day. It’s phenomenal, the best day of my life,” Dadswell said. “It’s been an amazing two weeks. There’s certainly an attacking nature inside me.”Dadswell was the major contributor in his team’s total of 677 for 3 in 50 overs, also a record in minor cricket. The previous highest was 629 for 5 and belonged to University of Warwick 2nd XI, against Newman College in 2007. NWU Pukke had another centurion in their ranks, Ruan Haasbroek, who scored 104 not out. Potch Dorp’s bowlers were all severely punished, with Dawis Crowther conceding 131 runs in his 10 overs, although he did have a wicket as consolation. As if his batting effort was not enough, Dadswell also took 2 for 32 in seven overs, as Potch Dorp finished on 290 for 9 and lost by 387 runsA former pupil of King Edward VII School, the alma mater of Graeme Smith and Quinton de Kock, among others, Dadswell has played in all the Cricket South Africa age-group weeks and is currently in his second year as a Business Psychology student. He has yet to decide if he will pursue cricket professionally, but has been in talks with provincial side North West, one of two teams that feed into the Johannesburg-based Lions’ franchise.”It would be amazing to play cricket for a living. I guess the first steps have already been taken because it was in the pipeline for me to start training with the North West Dragons from this week,” he said. “So, that’s the direction I’m looking in for now. I have been part of a few things with them this season. I’ve played a warm-up game and stuff like that. I don’t really think I would have had an opportunity up until next year, but hopefully this innings will change that.”

West Ham Close To Sealing "World-Class" £30m Maestro

It has been a chaotic week for West Ham United.

Firstly, the Irons agreed a £35m deal to sign Edson Alvarez from Ajax, before reaching a £30m agreement for Manchester United’s Harry Maguire.

But most importantly, the 2023 Europa Conference League winners have also agreed a deal to sign James Ward-Prowse.

What’s the latest on James Ward-Prowse to West Ham?

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Hammers and Southampton are set to agree on a £30m deal for Ward-Prowse.

The 28-year-old is expected to sign a four-year contract and is keen to complete the move as soon as possible.

The three aforementioned signings would see Irons boss David Moyes reinvest nearly £100m of the £105m acquired from the record-breaking sale of Declan Rice.

This will be welcome information for the Hammers faithful after that gut-wrenching news that Manchester City are actively pursuing a deal to sign Lucas Paqueta.

Would James Ward-Prowse be a good signing for West Ham?

After a glorious 20-year association with the Saints, it seems that Englishman is finally set to depart to continue playing top-flight football.

When Ward-Prowse made his Premier League debut back in 2012, then-manager Nigel Adkins described the youngster as “outstanding” and his latest top-flight campaign is a testament to his everlasting consistency.

Last year, in a dismal season for Southampton, Ward-Prowse started every domestic game, was the club’s scorer and creator (nine goals and four assists), and averaged the most key passes per game (1.9).

His seismic influence was recognised by former manager Nathan Jones, who said:

“He's been absolutely world-class for me. He's one of the best technicians I've ever seen, the consistency he shows is world-class."

Ward-Prowse’s esteemed creativity and goal threat could make a worthy Paqueta deputy, should the Brazilian move to the Etihad Stadium.

The reigning Premier League Champions are yet to make a formal offer for the 25-year-old but West Ham have no intention in selling of their star assets.

Fabrizio Romano outlined that Man City began discussions over a £70m package, but this was considered insufficient.

The reputable Italian journalist later revealed that Paqueta has a release clause worth £85m in his current contract, but this is only valid from June 2024.

Nevertheless, the treble winners have already allowed Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan to leave and could benefit from some attacking depth, so it is likely that they will use their financial muscle to try again.

Although Paqueta began life in east London slowly, he finished the term with 12 goal involvements in 41 appearances and provided the assist for Jarrod Bowen to win the club’s first European trophy since 1965.

Lucas Paqueta

Whilst Alvarez is viewed as the conventional Rice replacement, playing 139 games as a defensive midfielder, Ward-Prowse offers a different type of versatility that could see him as a deep-lying playmaker or a further advanced deputy for Paqueta.

Moyes’ new midfield set-up is also dependent on Tomas Soucek – the 28-year-old has featured in 109 of the club’s last 114 Premier League games, but a new era for the side could see the Czech shifted to a less prominent role.

Regardless of whether Paqueta stays or not, Ward-Prowse is well-equipped for different roles within the midfield and is a hugely important piece of business for the Hammers.

Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp Aims Brutal Dig At Newcastle Coach

Jurgen Klopp is not one to hold back what he truly thinks, making for some fairly famous quotes throughout his time at Liverpool.

Catch the German in a fiery mood, and he may well give you an explosive answer. Meanwhile, as proven in his recent press conference, he’s not afraid to take aim at his fellow managers, even in a light-hearted way.

Asked about the new Premier League rule, which allows just one member of staff to stand in the technical area, Klopp hit back with an instant reply, and jokingly took aim at Newcastle United’s Jason Tindall and Eddie Howe.

Whether or not the Newcastle coaches make their response remains to be seen, but Klopp certainly enjoyed the chance to take aim at those at St James’ Park.

What did Jurgen Klopp say?

As you can see from the video posted by Hayters TV, Klopp shared his thoughts on the new rule, signalling a flurry of laughter from the press room, saying: “I think it’s only for one team a real problem, Newcastle.”

After cracking up himself, he then added a sarcastic: “Sorry!”

Of course, the Liverpool manager isn’t exactly wrong, either. Tindall and Howe both operated from within the technical area last season, with the former even going viral with just how much he is involved for the Magpies.

An assistant manager in the loosest of ways, Tindall must now figure out a way to keep his influence going at Newcastle, whilst attempting to not break the new rule set by the Premier League.

With a game against Liverpool coming up at the end of August too, we’re sure that Klopp will be keeping a keen eye on what’s going on next to him in the dugout.

What’s the latest Liverpool transfer news?

When it comes to the transfer window, to say that Liverpool have had a nightmare month would be the understatement of the year. First, the Reds lost both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia, leaving them short in midfield.

Then, they tussled with Southampton in a public manner, attempting to bargain the Saints’ reported £50m valuation of Romeo Lavia down by placing bids going up into the late £40m mark ever so slightly.

To top things off, the Premier League giants then agreed a deal with Brighton & Hove Albion, as confirmed by Klopp, to sign Moises Caicedo, only for the midfielder to reject the Reds in favour of what is now a pending move to Chelsea, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Coming full circle, they have finally agreed a deal with Southampton to sign Lavia, according to The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg, after seeing a £60m bid accepted. This, of course, follows their initial reluctance to meet the Saints’ £50m valuation.

With Chelsea also pursuing the Belgian, however, Liverpool could see both of their targets end the summer at Stamford Bridge, leaving them without a defensive midfielder, altogether.

The more it’s looked at, the more Liverpool’s summer transfer window becomes the stuff of nightmares. With the Premier League season underway, the Reds must find themselves a defensive midfielder, whether that’s through the signing of Lavia or another option found elsewhere in the coming weeks.

Youngsters aping Kohli's actions 'worries me' – Dravid

The impact of Virat Kohli’s in-your-face persona on young, impressionable cricketers is a cause for concern for Rahul Dravid. The former India captain feared aping Kohli’s aggressive words and approach might lead to youngsters not being authentic to themselves. While Dravid admitted to cringing at some “outrageous” things Kohli says on occasions, he also defended him by saying that so long as he was true to himself, and it helped get the best out of him it shouldn’t matter.”I think the game is still about performance. So let’s not take that way from someone like Kohli,” Dravid said at the Bangalore Literature Festival on Sunday. “That’s his personality. People have asked me, ‘Why didn’t you behave like that?’ But that’s not what got the best out of me. I would have been inauthentic to myself if I had tried to put tattoos and behave like Virat.”Sometimes, especially before an Australia series, you’ll find Virat saying the most outrageous things. And I read the paper and cringe at times. But then I think back, maybe he actually wants that contest. He wants that lip on the field because that gets the best out of him. Now that might not be everyone’s cup of tea. But at the end of the day, he’s got to do what gets the best out of him. Ajinkya Rahane is very different and he gets the best out of himself by doing different things. I think being authentic to yourself is very, very important.”If engaging in a contest, sometimes needling the opposition, is getting the best out of Virat – and it certainly is because his level of performance is second to none in the world today – then so be it. You can’t blame him for it.”What worries me a little bit is a lot of that gets translated into junior cricket. That’s the scary thing for me, not so much what Virat does. Kids at 12, 13, 14 want to become the next Virat Kohli, not realising that maybe that’s not authentic to who they are.”During the Test series against Australia earlier this year, Kohli took on Steven Smith and alleged systematic DRS abuse. He also said his relationship with the Australia players was irrevocably damaged. Dravid was happy that cricketers today were a far more confident lot and that the financial security that came with playing the game even at a lower level empowered them.”I think there’s a certain confidence and belief in Indian cricket today which has come about through results,” he said. “It’s definitely more evident today than from the time I started. I remember I was sitting on a flight and I was really excited going on one of my early tours and said, ‘It’ll be great if we can win the series.’ And what I got was, ‘We’ll be lucky if we can win one Test match. Let’s hope we can win one and draw the rest’. People expect India now to win. Certainly, there is a level of fitness, confidence and belief that probably didn’t exist when I was starting out.”When I look at a lot of the India A guys or Under-19 guys that I coach, I can see the fearlessness and confidence. It also comes with a certain level of financial security. For me, as a 21-22-year old, I knew that the B.Com degree I barely managed to get in college wasn’t going to suffice, and I needed to make cricket work. There was a pressure to make cricket work and make it possible for me to lead a good life. Today’s cricketers know that even if they don’t play for India, they can still make a very good living for themselves. I’m very happy about that.”Dravid, however, had one cautionary note for young players: they don’t need a player agent until the time they reach a high standard of cricket. “One of the things I like to tell young cricketers is that you don’t really need an agent. Okay, a Virat Kohli or a Mahendra Singh Dhoni today needs an agent because if they have to focus on their cricket and play at that high level, they need to ensure that somebody else is looking after their finances,” he said. “They don’t want to be chasing their dates, or chasing people for money that is owed. But at the younger age of 17, 18 and 19, having agents is definitely not necessary. I don’t see any big hoarding of a 17 or 18-year old. The only hoardings you see today are Kohli or Dhoni or one or two other Indian players. So it’s only when you reach that standard of cricket do you need agents to support and help you.”

Bangladesh look to turn around listless bowling show

The visitors have not found a way to curb the dominance of South Africa’s batsmen and are in danger of ending up with a 0-3 series scoreline

Big PictureSunday’s ODI in East London is set to be the last match in the format for South Africa and Bangladesh in 2017, and they will each eye a good finish, although the game holds a little more importance for Bangladesh, who are trailing 0-2 in the series. While Bangladesh will look to salvage a win, South Africa will want to finish with their second series-sweep of the year. The hosts’ dominance has been driven by their batting. The first two ODIs saw AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock make the most of opportunities. While Amla and de Kock made hundreds in the first ODI in Kimberley, setting up a record opening partnership in the process, the second match belonged to de Villiers, who brought up his personal best of 176 off only 104 deliveries.Shakib Al Hasan’s quick wickets had given Bangladesh some hope in Paarl but once de Villiers began accelerating, particularly after crossing 100, there was little Bangladesh could do to stop him. Rubel Hossain dismissed de Villiers to bring some respite but the match highlighted once again the visitors’ struggles with the ball on this tour – they took a total of 13 wickets across three innings in the Test series, and only six in the two ODIs.Bangladesh’s batting hasn’t been as dismal but it hasn’t won them matches either. Mushfiqur Rahim has scored 170 runs and has been dismissed once, while Imrul Kayes has struck his first fifty this year in Paarl. The rest, however, have fallen after getting starts. One of the batsmen who may suffer as a result of this inconsistency is Liton Das, who could be replaced by Soumya Sarkar.South Africa’s bowling has done just about enough to keep Bangladesh quiet in both matches. He hit only one six in his run-a-ball 30 and will hope to set things right in the third ODI, if given the chance. After scoring 93 runs in the Test series, and fending off questions on his captaincy, Mushfiqur Rahim has had a better time in the ODIs with scores of 110 not out and 60. Burnely Could Sign Next Gibbs-White In £14m Talen

Upon their promotion back to the promised land, Burnley have shelled out €91.6m (£78.3m) to flesh out the squad for Premier League football.

The latest name on the verge of a transfer to Turf Moor is Aaron Ramsey, in what would be a hugely exciting move for all parties.

What’s the latest Burnley transfer news?

According to reports, Aston Villa have already agreed to sell Aaron Ramsey to Burnley for around £14m.

However, the deal is yet to be completed as the Midlands outfit are finalising the add-ons and are insisting upon a buy-back option.

This has been confirmed by Unai Emery, who said: “Young players are very important for us. And we have to make a plan for them. In the past, present and the future and we don’t want to stop their career.

“Now, Aaron is so close to leaving and the idea is to have the possibility to recover him if he progresses over the next year or for more, deserving to play and come here."

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has also commented on the situation, adding: "The latest I've heard is that we're close. He's not our player yet but I hope he will be soon."

What is Aaron Ramsey's style of play?

The 20-year-old has been at Aston Villa since U9 level, and whilst his older brother Jacob has evolved into one of the club’s most important and talented assets, Aaron’s path to the first team looks far more complicated, hence Burnley’s interest.

Although he has made just one appearance for the senior side, the attacking midfielder has been sensational for the youth sides – in 53 appearances for the U18 and U21 sides, he recorded 37 goal contributions and his glittering academy performances meant a first-team beckoned.

Last season, this experience arrived in the Championship with Norwich City and Middlesbrough.

Aaron-Ramsey-Middlesbrough

Across 21 starts for both clubs, he bagged eight goals and crafted four assists in either a central or wide playmaking role.

Middlesbrough coach Michael Carrick was extremely impressed with the youngster, praising his positive impact on the side, saying: “AJ’s been terrific for a number of weeks. He’s so creative and a natural with the ball.”

During his time in north Yorkshire, Ramsey averaged the most dribbles per game (1.8) in the squad and his journey could be reminiscent of Morgan Gibbs-White’s glorious rise.

The 5 foot 7 technician had been at Wolves since 2008, and after 12 Premier League starts over four years, he was sent out on to Sheffield United for the 2021/22 season.

That year he starred in the second tier, as Ramsey was set to do a year later. Indeed, the attacking midfielder notched 22 goal involvements in the Championship and averaged the most key passes (1.6), and dribbles (1.4) per game, as per WhoScored.

As a result, last summer, Gibbs-White sealed a move to newly-promoted Nottingham Forest and has emerged as an indispensable component of the side.

In 34 Premier League matches, the forward once again averaged the most key passes (1.9), and dribbles (1.3) per game. He has registered eight assists, a higher total than the likes of Jack Grealish, Martin Odegaard, and Son Heung-Min.

Gibbs-White progression from a successful Championship loanee to a guaranteed top-flight starter is something that Ramsey can aim for, and with his current potential, it is a very achievable feat.
