Liverpool Eyeing "Coveted" £26m "Leader" This Month

Liverpool's midfield still feels somewhat lacking despite Jurgen Klopp's side making three acquisitions this summer, and with the summer transfer window in its penultimate week, negotiations could intensify shortly.

What's the latest on Andre to Liverpool?

According to Brazilian outlet Globo GE, the Reds have tabled a €30m (£25m) offer for Fluminense midfielder Andre this summer, though have had the approach rejected with the Brazilian Serie A side in the quarter-finals of the Conmebol Libertadores.

Read the latest Liverpool transfer news HERE…

It is also understood that the 22-year-old holds a €40m (£34m) release clause, per reports in Brazil as relayed by Sport Witness, in his Fluminense contract, but the movement of this deal over the past weeks suggests there is a reluctance to meet the valuation on the Anfield side.

Liverpool have signed Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo this summer, but with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho's sales to Saudi Arabia preceded by the contractual expiries of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, making another signing might be prudent.

How good is Andre?

The tough-tackling, "top-class roaming playmaker" – as hailed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has been in fine fettle in his homeland for Fluminense, having now made 148 appearances for his only outfit to date.

While there is promise in Liverpool's team following a subpar campaign last term, the need for a first-rate holding midfielder has been paramount, and the failure to sign both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who both moved to Chelsea despite Liverpool reaching an agreement on price, stung the Merseyside outfit.

If Liverpool manage to negotiate a deal for Andre for about half the £58m Chelsea have paid to Southampton for Lavia, it could prove to be a masterstroke from Klopp and sporting director Jorg Schmadtke with the one-cap Brazil star, especially after the astute £16m transfer of the industrious Endo from Stuttgart.

andre-liverpool-transfer-news-opinion-premier-league

As per Sofascore, Andre has recorded an average rating of 7.14 across 16 outings in the Brasileiro Serie A this season, completing 94% of his passes, making 2.5 tackles per game and succeeding in 64% of his ground duels and 70% of his dribbles, also described as a "leader" by Kulig.

Lavia, comparatively, recorded an average league score of 6.80 with Southampton last term, completing 86% of his passes, averaging 2.1 tackles and winning 58% of his ground duels, albeit playing in the Premier League with a pretty shocking Saints team, who were relegated.

While Lavia is a tremendous talent, highlighted through his ranking among the top 6% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for blocks per 90, as per FBref, Andre perhaps offers a more dynamic skill set to bolster the Liverpool engine room.

Indeed, the South American gem ranks among the top 1% of midfielders across Men's Next Eight divisions for pass completion, the top 2% for passes attempted and the top 7% for successful take-ons per 90, illustrating a passing prowess and energy in the centre that would complement Klopp's high-octane system, so slick and irresistible when at its scorching zenith.

There is no question that Lavia is a prodigious talent, but Andre – who was once hailed as his club's most "coveted" asset by former striker Fred – must be signed as the shrewd alternative now that the Belgian is a part of Stamford Bridge, and it could be a move that pays off handsomely as Liverpool chart a course back to the top.

India fight back with three last-hour wickets

Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsAfter all the talk of the pace and bounce of the Highveld, Centurion ended up providing India the most subcontinental conditions they could have expected on this tour. The skies were blue, the pitch was brown, and R Ashwin bowled the bulk of India’s overs. That could have been the extent of India feeling at home. For the first 80.4 overs of the day, South Africa’s batsmen had pitched tents on this flat, friendly surface and pinned family photographs onto the canvas. Aiden Markram had fallen narrowly short of a hundred, but Hashim Amla looked all set to stroll past that milestone, and South Africa were 246 for 3.And then, Centurion 2018 turned into Kolkata 2010. Amla and Alviro Petersen had scored centuries that day, only for South Africa to collapse from 218 for 1 to 296 all out, in a typically Eden Gardens post-tea collapse. Here, South Africa lost three wickets for the addition of five runs, two of them to run-outs, and India, out of nowhere, were back in the game. They hardly deserved to be: Ashwin and Ishant Sharma apart, their frontline bowlers had been poor.Deserve, however, has nothing to do with Test cricket; a few overs is all it takes, sometimes, for a match to swing 180 degrees. It began, as it often can, with a moment of brilliance on the field. Amla got on his toes, rode the bounce of a short ball from Hardik Pandya, and tucked it gently into the on side. Faf du Plessis called for one, and Amla, after a moment’s hesitation, responded. That moment was enough; Pandya sprinted across in his follow-through, swooped on the ball, spun around, and fired a direct hit at the bowler’s end. Amla was gone, for 82.In walked Quinton de Kock, a left-hander. Ashwin, from round the wicket, greeted him with a quick-turning offbreak in the channel outside off stump. New to the crease, de Kock pushed at it without really moving his feet and edged to slip. All the swirling excitement and anxiety of the moment got to Vernon Philander, who ten minutes earlier would not have expected to put on his pads. A bunt into the leg side, and a mad dash to the other end despite his captain yelling at him to stay put cost him his wicket. South Africa were 251 for 6 and India flooded the stump mic with yelps of delight. For most of the first eight-ninths of this day, India’s voices had been muted. The first four South African wickets had added 85, 63, 51 and 47, indicative of an attack that seldom applied pressure from both ends, and a top order that batted with a great degree of comfort.Playing only his seventh Test innings, Markram passed 50 for the fourth time, and looked a natural fit at this level. Taking guard on off stump, he stood tall and stood still at the crease, making no trigger movement and as a result remaining perfectly balanced. Time and again India’s seamers slipped in the full, straight lbw ball in vain; Markram’s head refused to fall across to the off side, and he punched and drove handsomely through the V, the area wide of mid-on proving particularly productive. When the quicks dropped short, he punished them with punches and slaps through the covers and, on one occasion, a dismissive pull. The Saturday crowd at Centurion got to see all these shots frequently, since the fast bowlers, Ishant apart, kept feeding him boundary balls.Jasprit Bumrah showed control with the new ball, but sprayed it around in all his subsequent spells, while Mohammed Shami, much like day one in Cape Town, was wayward and below top-pace with the new ball. Just when he seemed to be finding some rhythm and reverse-swing around an hour after lunch, Shami went off the field, looking a little under the weather. India’s team management later clarified it was a “mild headache”.Bounce apart, there wasn’t a whole lot of help for the seam bowlers, and perhaps this was why India went in with Ishant ahead of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who had picked up 4 for 87 and 2 for 33 in Cape Town. Ishant responded impressively, coming on as first change and testing Dean Elgar’s footwork and judgment with his angle, a bit of seam movement, and a fullish length that drew the left-hander forward.Having fought his way through this spell, Elgar survived a testing period against Ashwin just before lunch, getting beaten twice in 10 balls, with India unsuccessfully reviewing for caught-behind on one occasion. Soon after lunch, Elgar stepped out and drove Ashwin back over his head – perhaps the shot of an anxious batsman looking to hit his tormentor off his length – but the next time he tried stepping out, he didn’t reach the pitch of the ball and ended up stabbing a catch to silly point. This was India’s best period of play all day, with Ashwin finding dip and bounce at one end and Ishant bowling tightly at the other. These two couldn’t keep bowling forever, however, and South Africa soon returned to free-scoring ways, with Amla turning the clock back with the wristwork on his flicks and back-foot punches. It took a change of angle for India to effect their next breakthrough, Markram edging Ashwin behind when he went around the wicket. The ball, angled across Markram, didn’t spin back as much as he expected, but it was the length that did him, pinning him awkwardly to the crease – rather than going neither forward nor back, he was trying to do both at the same time – and making him jab away from his body.AB de Villiers was busy right from the time he came in, unveiling the reverse-sweep to pick up a boundary off Ashwin when he was still in single figures, but there was a touch of looseness to his game as well. A jab away from his body at Bumrah resulted in an inside-edge that nearly trickled onto his stumps, and when he tried the same shot against Ishant after tea, he chopped on for 20. The ball had begun to keep low every now and then and this was a shot he could have avoided. At that point, though, South Africa were still in too dominant a position to worry unduly. Amla was looking at his serene best, putting Shami away disdainfully when he kept dropping short in a brief post-tea spell, driving Ashwin against the turn with a twirl of his wrists, and, on 79, keeping out a shin-high shooter from Bumrah as if it was a perfectly normal delivery. Just when he looked set to coast to a century and beyond, however, a moment’s hesitation brought India roaring back to life.

Nottingham Forest Plot Swoop For £26m Talent

Nottingham Forest will be looking to establish themselves as a competitive Premier League side during their second season in the top flight, and Steve Cooper has made it clear that new additions will be crucial.

The Garibaldi Reds managed to survive the jaws of relegation last season after finding themselves falling into the bottom three on several occasions over the 38-game campaign, but will be hoping that with experience and confidence boosted they will have learned from their mistakes and compete more comfortably this season.

So far, Forest have added former Manchester United academy graduate Anthony Elanga and Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner to their squad, but are still extremely active in the transfer market and keen to bolster key positions in the team with quality.

Who are Nottingham Forest's transfer targets?

The Forest boss took to his post-match interview after their Premier League opener at the Emirates last weekend to reiterate the need for more incomings:

"There’s nothing imminent. I have to trust the club to crack on with the work. My work is to work with the team every day, come in every day and try to get the best out of them."

The Trentside club have been linked regularly throughout the summer with a move for Ibrahim Sangare, however, PSV Eindhoven have rejected all proposals so far including a €25m (£21m) bid this week.

Now, it looks like Forest are moving on to another midfield talent, with further reports this week from Record in Portugal suggesting that the Tricky Trees have joined the race to sign SL Benfica star Florentino Luis with the outlet claiming that Forest are preparing a £26m bid for his signature imminently.

Who is Florentino Luis?

Better known as Florentino, the Portugal U21 international has been subjected to a lot of interest from Premier League clubs this summer, as many elite English outfits are looking to improve their midfield personnel.

Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City have all been named as potential suitors, a testament to the incredible performances and talent that Florentino has displayed over the last 12 months in the defensive midfield role.

florentino-luis-nottingham-forest-transfer-news-premier-league

Over 33 Liga Portugal appearances last season, the 23-year-old ace registered three assists, tallied up a 90% pass completion rate, successfully completed 72% of his dribbles and won 60% of his aerial and ground duels combined, as per SofaScore.

When comparing Florentino's output with Sangare's last season, it's clear to see why he'd be such a good alternative.

Indeed, the pair shared many similarities in key attributes including pass completion (89.7% v 83.7%), goal-creating actions per 90 (0.21 v 0.16), percentage of dribblers tackled (69.7% v 57.5%) and aerial duels won (61% v 62.5%), as per FBref.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig lavished praise on the Portuguese whiz following the climax of the Primeira Liga last season:

"[He has] superb work rate, positioning, timing, composure, and consistency. The Portuguese Octopus."

With that being said, the signing of Florentino would be a major addition for Forest, especially if they could be the likes of Liverpool and Man City to the signing of the midfielder, as he could be an incredible asset to Cooper over the season ahead and beyond.

Everton: £75k-p/w "monster" could solve Dyche’s new problem

The hubbub of the summer transfer window has now ended and for the majority of Premier League managers, has likely been met with relief.

The snapping jaws of lucrative rivals have now lost their bite, and the focus is now solely on conjuring up a campaign worthy of cheer, and for Everton boss Sean Dyche, he will feel that the squad he wields is stronger now than it was at the end of the 2022/23 term.

Indeed, the Toffees escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth last season, with Abdoulaye Doucoure's emphatic second-half finish against Bournemouth on the final day enough to bag three points and relegate Leicester City in their stead.

The club finished as the division's second-lowest scorers, and while a cutting edge still needs sharpening, there is now a new quandary for Dyche to find a solution.

Who did Everton sign this summer?

After a campaign littered in misery, Dyche will have hoped that his work on the transfer front would at least smatter some positivity on the blue half of Merseyside, with Ashley Young, Arnaut Danjuma, Jack Harrison, Youssef Chermiti and Beto arriving to transform results on the pitch.

That hasn't quite been the case thus far, with the Goodison Park side commencing the season with a triad of league losses against Fulham, Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers, failing to score across each encounter.

beto-everton-opinion-premier-league

That was followed up by a more promising away draw against newly-promoted Sheffield United, with two goals apiece creating an enthralling affair where both teams showed off their attacking intent but saw defensive frailties brutally exposed.

This is a concern for Dyche, with his backline arguably weaker now than it was last year, given that Yerry Mina and Conor Coady have both left and no replacement has been acquired – barring returning loanee Jarrad Branthwaite. It's time, therefore, that Ben Godfrey steps up.

How good is Ben Godfrey?

Dyche, a specialist in defensive application and organisation, will be confident that he can get the best out of the players at his disposal, piling emphasis on diligence, defensive strength and cohesion to ensure his sides prosper, having masterfully established Burnley as a top-flight outfit in his previous, long-standing role.

Because of this, the time for centre-back Godfrey's rise to prominence might be nigh, with the 25-year-old struggling for form and fitness over the past few years after initially impressing following his £20m transfer from Norwich City in 2020.

Having missed 15 matches due to injury last term, Godfrey was unable to make a mark on Everton's campaign and indeed struggled to impress on the pitch when called upon, branded a "disaster" by England icon Stuart Pearce, who also said that the £75k-per-week ace "wasn't at the races".

Everton central defender Ben Godfrey.

Initially looking like a "monster" of a signing, as was said by journalist James Whaling, Godfrey recorded a Sofascore rating of 7.03 across the 20/21 season – keeping 11 clean sheets, completing 85% of his passes and winning 66% of his duels – but has slumped ever since; if one man can bring him back to the fore, it's Dyche.

The fundamentals are largely still there, with FBref ranking the 6-foot defender among the top 1% of positional peers across Europe's top five leagues for clearances, the top 18% for blocks and the top 9% for aerial wins per 90.

Against Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup last week, he displayed signs of greater fluidity, completing 81% of his passes, winning ten duels, and making four tackles and clearances apiece – albeit against a struggling League Two side, but a promising sign nonetheless.

Dyche will need to utilise every tool at his disposal this season, with Michael Keane hardly evoking confidence himself and Branthwaite, aged 21, talented but young and inexperienced.

Godfrey has not been at his best for some time, but past performances and his maintained robustness in sweeping away danger and stifling out attacks tantalise a return to prosperity.

With Dyche at the helm and a full pre-season behind him, he could now finally rekindle his form and play a big role in solving Everton's new problem.

Nottingham Forest: Cooper could land £30m Deadline Day coup

Nottingham Forest are still active in the transfer market even with only a few hours left to complete new signings, and now a new update has emerged from a reliable source on a long-term target.

Who could Nottingham Forest sign on transfer deadline day?

According to Italian journalist and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Nottingham Forest are interested in signing PSV Eindhoven Ibrahim Sangare before the transfer window shuts at 11pm today.

Romano revealed on social media yesterday:

"Nottingham Forest are pushing in talks with PSV Eindhoven for Ibrahima Sangaré. Negotiations ongoing today in London.

"Sangaré out and Lozano in could be key part of the domino for Johan Bakayoko to leave PSV."

A move for Sangare could further align following the exit of Lewis O'Brien last night, as the Forest midfielder has joined Middlesbrough on a season-long loan in the Championship.

What are Ibrahim Sangare's strengths?

It is no secret that Nottingham Forest have been huge admirers of Sangare for a long time, so finally sealing his signature in the dying hours of the summer window would be an exciting prospect for the club and its supporters.

The Tricky Trees are currently 14th in the Premier League table and will be keen to compete much more comfortably this season to avoid getting caught up in another tight relegation battle at the bottom of the table and retaining their top-flight status once again.

ibrahim-sangare-premier-league-nottingham-forest-transfers

As a result, the signing of Sangare would be a major coup for the Trentside club as the midfielder is a high-quality midfielder who boasts a diverse skill set, but is especially consistent in his defensive presence in the centre of the pitch.

Over 29 Eredivisie appearances last season, the Ivory Coast international was in red-hot form, scoring five goals, tallying up an 84% pass completion rate and successfully completing 77% of his dribbles, winning 2.3 tackles and 5.8 duels per game, as per SofaScore, proving that he is a dominant presence both in attack and defensive.

Not only that, the 25-year-old sensation ranks in the top 15% of his positional peers across the eight leagues most similar to the Eredivisie for progressive passes, successful take-ons, clearances and aerial duels won per 90 minutes played over the last 12 months, according to FBref.

Branded the "King of PSV" and "extraordinary" in the past by former PSV and Ajax boss Aad de Mos, Sangare has been linked with moves to some of the biggest and most successful English clubs over the last few months including PSG, Bayern and Liverpool, meaning it would indeed be quote the coup if he arrives at the City Ground today.

According to PSV journalist Rik Elfrink, Forest submitted a €35m (£30m) bid for the midfielder on Wednesday [30th August], but it remains to be seen as to whether the Dutch club will accept the offer or demand more as the clock ticks down in the final minutes and hours of the transfer window.

With that being said, it would be a no-brainer to secure Sangare's signature this summer as he could be a huge asset to Cooper's pursuit to establish Nottingham Forest as a competitive Premier League club over the season ahead and beyond.

Liverpool Could Deal Another Blow To Man Utd By Signing £151k-p/w Machine

Liverpool are likely working hard behind the scenes to identify a new signing to complete the midfield rebuild, but with the transfer window shortly closing, the club will now need to act incisively.

The winds of change have been blowing at Anfield this summer, and while Jurgen Klopp's side have started the Premier League season well – defeating Bournemouth and Newcastle United and drawing away to Chelsea – there are concerns that not enough has been done on the transfer front.

The Reds will likely push to sign at least one player, with reports indicating that attention is on young Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

What's the latest on Ryan Gravenberch to Liverpool?

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are in direct contact with Gravenberch's agents ahead of a possible transfer in the window's dying embers, with Bayern understood to have changed their stance on a player previously considered untouchable.

Read the latest Liverpool transfer news HERE…

The Athletic's David Ornstein has recently claimed that Manchester United have the Dutchman on their radar, though are currently pushing to complete a loan move for Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat.

How good is Ryan Gravenberch?

Once hailed as the Netherlands' "greatest talent" by former Ajax forward Wim Kieft, Gravenberch was instrumental for de Godenzonen in their trophy-winning escapades before completing a €24m (£20m) transfer to the imperious Bundesliga giants last summer.

While he arrived as one of Europe's most prodigious talents, Gravenberch failed to make a mark in Germany and was handed just three Bundesliga starts all season, making just one brief cameo against Augsburg thus far this term.

Despite this, the £151k-per-week gem ranks among the top 4% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for shot-creating actions, the top 19% for progressive passes, the top 13% for successful take-ons and the top 18% for tackles per 90, as per FBref.

Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

Such an all-encompassing set of skills from such little match action is a testament to Gravenberch's innate ability, a technicality transcending the throngs of midfield hopefuls across Europe, and under Klopp's stewardship, he could be unlocked and nurtured to his full potential, described as a "dominant" machine in the engine room by former youth coach Brian Tevreden.

By sealing a swoop, Klopp could repeat his previous dealing with the German champions in signing Thiago Alcantara for £25m in 2020, with the distinguished Spaniard making 97 appearances and earning praise for his "staggering" performances by pundit Michael Owen, albeit spending a lot of time on English shores shackled to the medical room.

Given that Manchester United were believed to hold a firm interest in the 32-year-old pass-master prior to Liverpool's acquisition, Klopp could now seek to emulate his own former deal and claim a new Bavarian star to play a part in a new fight for illustrious success, potentially leaving the Red Devils in the dirt.

Sport Bild reporter Christian Falk has claimed that Liverpool are willing to make a £20m bid for the rising star, and doing so could prove to be another Klopp masterstroke in dipping into Bayern's transfer pool and procuring one of their most talented midfielders.

Having beaten Manchester United to the signing of Thiago, the Merseyside outfit now have the opportunity to repeat the feat and bag Gravenberch's signature for years to come.
