Glasgow Rangers hobbled to a rather laborious 1-0 win against Motherwell in the Premiership at the weekend and while three points is always a good sign, the quality of performance was anything but.
Michael Beale has failed to implement any sort of tactical identity or style on this Gers side, despite being in the job for ten months.
Of course, it takes time for summer arrivals to settle and get up to the required pace of play, and with nine new faces coming through the doors at Ibrox, it may require some patience.
Time isn’t on Beale’s side however, with far too many of his new signings failing to step up and hit the ground running, most notably Danilo.
Having spent £6m on signing the forward from Feyenoord, the Brazilian striker was expected to be the man who could replace the goals of Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos, yet he has been underused to say the least.
How has Danilo performed for Rangers?
The lavish fee it cost to bring the player to Ibrox would indicate that he was going to go straight into the starting XI, yet it hasn’t quite worked out like that so far.
Danilo
Indeed, the 24-year-old has made only four starts across the ten games he has played for the Light Blues, even failing to make the starting XI for the crunch Old Firm clash at the start of September.
He has scored three times during his spell on the pitch, yet his progress has been stalled by suffering a fractured cheekbone against St Johnstone just a couple of weeks ago.
The forward underwent a small surgery to fix the issue, and he will be hoping to return to the squad sooner rather than later.
Once fit and healthy, Beale will be expecting him to make a big impact in the first team, yet the 43-year-old would surely love to call upon a former forward or two in order to give his side an attacking edge.
Dado Prso would be an ideal player to cause chaos to opposition defences and there is no doubt, that at the peak of his powers, the Croatian was a bigger talent than Danilo.
What happened to Dado Prso?
Prso had spent a few seasons playing for AS Monaco before his goal-scoring exploits finally caught the imagination of the rest of the continent.
Dado Prso for Rangers
Having netted 15 goals during the 2002/03 season, the 6 foot 2 machine shone on the biggest stage of all – the Champions League.
He scored seven times in the competition as the French side reached the final for the first time, but Prso will be remembered for his wonderful display against Deportivo La Coruna.
Against the Spanish side, he became just the third player after Marco van Basten and Simone Inzaghi to score four goals during a Champions League fixture, and they all arrived before the 50th minute.
This clearly caught the eye of Gers boss Alex McLeish, who was going through a turbulent season in charge of the Glasgow side and by May 2004, the giant Croatian had signed a pre-contract agreement with Rangers.
McLeish heaped praise on the bustling striker, saying: "He is very direct and he has a great presence which is just what we need. I am absolutely delighted to have signed a player of his calibre."
How many goals did Dado Prso score for Rangers?
Failing to win any domestic trophy during the 2003/04 season was deemed a massive failure and McLeish sought to fix it. New arrivals included not only Prso, but also Nacho Novo, Jean-Alain Boumsong and Marvin Andrews.
With Celtic and Rangers neck and neck throughout the whole campaign, the Light Blues snatched the title at the very death as the Parkhead outfit lost to Motherwell while the Ibrox side defeated Hibernian and Prso played a crucial role in the title success.
Indeed, he netted an impressive 20 goals in all competitions and there was no greater sight than seeing the forward in full flow, charging towards the opposition defence.
He played under McLeish for two seasons and the former Scotland manager had nothing but fond words for him during his two years coaching the player.
He said: “Dado was awesome, just awesome and I’ve kept in touch with him over the years. He is just a wonderful human being.
“When we went up to Aberdeen and won during the Helicopter Sunday year, big Dado played in the Pittodrie wind and rain like an absolute trojan.
“He gave their defence water in the head on that particular day. All the guys would run through brick walls for us but Dado was just infectious. He was so liked by all the players, he was just so popular. A great character and the players loved him.”
Although he didn’t quite reach the goal-scoring heights of his first season, scoring just nine and four goals respectively in the subsequent campaigns – totalling 36 for the club – there was no denying his performances and never-say-die attitude.
He endeared himself to the supporters by netting three times against Celtic – twice in the league and once in a League Cup clash – during his spell in Glasgow, and he had everything in his locker.
Prso could play with the ball at his feet, had sublime pace and was like a brick wall during aerial duels and these attributes combined to make a striker who was feared by defences all over the country.
He’d be an upgrade on the majority, if not all, of the current Gers' attacking players and his all-round game appears to be slightly better than Danilo’s, although he hasn’t exactly been given plenty of chances to showcase his true ability.
The Croatian was a genuine star who represented his country at both a European Championship and World Cup, scoring against France at the former.
In all honesty, he could have played in the Premier League during the peak of his powers. Prso was that good and Beale would certainly love to have a striker like the former Monaco man leading the line for the club over the coming months as they seek to challenge for trophies.
USA Cricket has announced the election timelines for the inaugural voting process being conducted by the new national governing body, filling the void left by the expelled USACA administration, with the main vote for the seven-member constituent board of directors taking place from May 18 to 28.
USA to host 2020 WT20 Americas Regional Qualifier
The ICC has announced that USA will be hosting the 2020 World T20 Americas Group A Regional Qualifier from September 16 to 23. Aside from USA, the other competing teams are Canada, Panama and Belize. The top two teams will join Bermuda and Cayman Islands in the Americas Regional Finals, with both teams having already advanced from the Americas Group B Regional Qualifier held in Argentina earlier this year. Though no city has been selected yet to host for USA, only one ground is needed since two matches will be played per day. That means that single-turf-wicket venues such as Indianapolis, Houston, Fort Lauderdale and Raleigh, North Carolina are possible options, aside from the four-ground Woodley Park in Los Angeles.
New members of USA Cricket must register by April 24 to be eligible to vote in the elections. Once registration closes, members will have until May 8 to declare nominations for the positions of club director, league director, two elite player directors, and three individual director positions. All eligible candidates – cleared by the nominating and governance committee formed by USA Cricket last week – will be announced to voters on May 13, ahead of the opening of the voting polls five days later. Should there be any tie, a run-off election will be conducted from June 1 to 8, before winners are announced on June 11.Following the announcement of the election results for the seven-member constituent board, the nominating and governance committee will identify three independent directors to be installed, to complete the 10-member board prior to this year’s ICC annual conference. A preliminary list of all eligible voting clubs, leagues and other members is expected to be released by USA Cricket on April 27.At least two members on the new USA Cricket board will be female – one of the two elite player directors, and one of the three independent directors. It’s a noticeable change from the previous USACA administration, which had no female board members during its existence. Dr Vincent Adams, member of the ICC’s sustainable foundation advisory group, believes that the inclusion of women is a step that will make for a stronger and more united board of directors going forward.”We have worked incredibly hard to develop a constitution and a membership base that unites the wonderfully diverse cricket community in the USA,” Adams said in a USA Cricket press release. “Our hope and our expectation is that this diversity is reflected in the inaugural USA Cricket Board, and we are very excited to announce this process, which we are confident will attract the best possible candidates.”

Sunderland won for the third time in four Championship matches as they beat Queens Park Rangers 3-1 away at Loftus Road on Saturday.
Who scored in Sunderland's win over QPR?
The home side took the lead in the 12th minute of the match as a long throw was not dealt with by Tony Mowbray's team and that allowed Kenneth Paal to guide a composed strike into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Jack Clarke found the equaliser just before half-time as his deflected strike from distance made it 1-1, just over 20 minutes after Jack Colback was sent off for a late challenge on Jobe Bellingham.
Dan Ballard put the Black Cats in front just over ten minutes into the second half as the central defender was on hand to tap the ball into an empty net after the goalkeeper denied Alex Pritchard from close range.
All three points were then wrapped up as Abdoullah Ba raced onto an excellent cross from Adil Aouchiche and found the roof of the net to make it 3-1.
How good was Jack Clarke against QPR?
Clarke stole the show with a phenomenal display out wide for the Black Cats but another player, who was Mowbray's unsung hero on the day, also deserves credit – Dan Neil.
The Sunderland academy graduate produced an outstanding performance in the middle of the park as he caught the eye with his actions in and out of possession.
Joe Clarke vs QPR in numbers (via Sofascore)
94 touches
4 dribbles
4 key passes
59% duels won
84% pass success
Clarke was a constant threat to the QPR defence with his ability to dribble and create opportunities, registering eight dribbles and key passes combined at the top end of the pitch.
Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil.
Combine that with his equalising goal and it was quite the afternoon for the wide man.
How good was Dan Neil against QPR?
Neil, however, also impressed with his contributions at both ends of the pitch. Off the ball, the 5 foot 10 midfielder won seven of his nine duels (78%), including four of his five aerial battles, which shows that he stood up to the physical test that the opposition provided.
As per Sofascore, the 21-year-old also enjoyed a whopping 107 touches of the ball and completed 96% of his attempted passes throughout the 90 minutes, which resulted in the Englishman creating three chances for his fellow attackers.
No player had more touches than the £1.3k-per-week earner in the match which illustrated the control that he had on the game in midfield as he was able to dictate the play and allowed Sunderland to dominate and create opportunities, which ultimately led to them winning the clash.
The Black Cats star was impressively reliable with his passing, as shown by his 96% success rate, but he was not afraid to play forward to break down the opposition, which was proven by his three key passes.
On that evidence, Neil was certainly the unsung hero of the match as he put in a fantastic showing alongside Clarke. He did not get on the scoresheet or constantly dribble past players like his compatriot but his metronomic play in midfield was pivotal to maintaining control and played a big role in the result.
Eu, Pedro, Gabriel, Everton, Diego…

Foster, who briefly contemplated retirement last year, added 103 with Simon Harmer to take the game away from Lancashire
Alan Gardner at Chelmsford21-Apr-20182:11
Mixed fortunes for India duo
ScorecardBatting at this time of year in England is often a frisky business, as can be ascertained by a quick glance at scorecards from around the country (with the honourable exception of Grace Road). Eighteen wickets fell on the first day at Chelmsford, and another two followed in short order, but thereafter Essex showed some grit worthy of their status as Division One champions to leave the visitors looking at a hefty fourth-innings chase.Essex managed to pass 200, somewhat fretfully, and then 300 with increasing panache as James Foster became the first batsman in the match to record a half-century. A few days on from his 38th birthday – and six months after briefly contemplating retirement following Essex’s surprise title win – he was fox-like and tenacious as ever with the bat in hand, even if (whisper it) a couple of sharp stumpings had passed him by on the first day.Foster appeared set to be emulated by Simon Harmer, the Kolpak cult hero who was awarded his county cap at lunch after completing his first five-for of the season in the morning. The eighth-wicket partnership between Foster and Harmer, worth 103 in 25 overs, came late in the day and left Lancashire flagging. Harmer brought up 300 with a thump for four of Graham Onions, was promptly dropped at second slip from the next ball, before becoming the second Essex batsman to be out on 49.Although the pitch seemed to have eased a little, Essex will likely feel confident they have enough in the bank; Lancashire, having been dismissed for scores of 158, 73 and 144 so far this season, have a sizeable task on their hands if they are not to head back north with two defeats from two.For two-and-a-half hours during the afternoon, there was a growing sense that Tom Westley might be about to make a mark – both on the game and in a slim field of England candidates looking to impress the new national selector, Ed Smith. But Westley chipped wastefully to extra cover for 49 off the bowling of leggie Matt Parkinson – who might claim some credit for deception having served up a few full tosses – and rapped his pads in frustration before walking off. While the glorious weather again suggested a good batting day, the surface has been receptive throughout. What Essex would have given to be able to deploy Alastair Cook for a couple of sessions of barnacle immovability and steady accumulation. “He needs the practice,” opined one of the locals, down by the River End before play got started; but Cook has been rested by England for the first two rounds, and few in the game now seem to possess his reserves of patience.Foster remains invigorated by the challenge of first-class cricket, however, chivvying and hustling valuable extra runs. When Ryan ten Doeschate was pinned lbw by Onions, the ball keeping a touch low, Essex’s lead was 180 but that swelled quickly during the evening session.Until Foster took charge, the most fluent passage of the day came when Westley and Ravi Bopara were adding 57 for the fourth wicket – although the fact they ran two off an overthrow as Lancashire were unsuccessfully appealing for lbw against Bopara tells you something about the nature of play. A slow outfield continued to hamper run-scoring, but Westley did unfurl one trademark whip through the leg side for four, like the first ice cream of the summer – good enough to stick a flake in.It was a case of “sun’s out, guns out” in the morning, and Lancashire were soon all out, too, Jamie Porter and Harmer wrapping up five-wicket hauls apiece in the first nine balls of the day. That gave Essex a slender first-innings lead, which had seemed unlikely when they were 113 for 9 on Friday. With batting bonus points out of the equation, Essex went in search of bonus runs. Varun Chopra, who also received his county cap some 12 years after making his Essex debut, cracked 28 of his 32 in boundaries during an opening stand of 48 – the second-highest in Division One to date – before comprehensively losing his off stump to Onions. Nick Browne and Dan Lawrence were both then sent on their way after disputed low catches but there was little argument about who was on top by the close.
Hearts have struggled in recent weeks and the international break arrived at precisely the right time for Steven Naismith to gather his thoughts and regroup with his team.
Despite a strong start to the season, which saw the Jambos win three of their first five matches, including a stunning victory over Rosenborg in the Europa Conference League qualifying tie.
Yet, their form since the win over Partick Thistle in the League Cup has been patchy to say the least as they have struggled to recapture their early success.
Naismith has led the club to wins over Aberdeen, Kilmarnock, and Ross County, yet they led arch rivals Hibernian 2-0 with just 25 minutes left before the Easter Road outfit pegged them back to secure a draw.
Star striker Lawrence Shankland is also going through a goal drought, having not scored since the 2-1 defeat to PAOK back in August and this is certainly depriving the side of goals.
The Scotsman ended last season having scored 28 goals across all competitions and with five goals in his first six games this term, it looked like he could even surpass the 28-goal mark.
The Tynecastle side also lost a key goalscoring threat in Josh Ginnelly during the summer. The winger joined Swansea City for nothing after his contract expired at Hearts, as he turned down an improved offer from the Premiership side.
Steven Naismith
He contributed with 13 goals and seven assists last season, and it is yet another transfer howler by Hearts, letting a wonderful player depart for nothing.
It is not the first time this has happened, however, with a player who left the club on a free transfer back in the summer of 2021 recently signing for West Ham United – Andy Irving.
How many appearances did Andy Irving make for Hearts?
The midfielder made his way through the academy at Hearts before making his first team debut during the 2017/18 season having impressed while out on loan at Berwick Rangers – scoring twice and grabbing an assist in 11 matches – and he made six appearances for the Jambos.
Irving then spent half a term on loan at Falkirk before finally breaking into the starting XI at the Edinburgh side ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
He made 27 appearances that term, grabbing two goals and three assists, and it represented a solid start to his Jambos career, despite their eventual relegation to the Championship.
It was in the second tier where he shone however, featuring in 23 league matches, registering nine goal contributions as the club secured promotion at the first time of asking.
Following these excellent performances in the second tier, it was clear he was ready to impress in the Premiership yet just when it looked like he was about to showcase his true potential for the club, he left following the expiration of his contract to join German third tier side Türkgücü Munich in what looked like a strange move.
Hearts loss was their gain however, with their sporting director Roman Plesche saying: "With his good physique, his extraordinary left foot and also his ability to steer a game, Andy already brings some important components to his game at the age of 21.”
During his spell at Hearts, Irving made 61 appearances for the club, and losing him two years ago certainly looks like a howler considering his current career trajectory.
What happened to Andy Irving?
His spell in Germany didn’t exactly go as expected, with the midfielder scoring just once across 23 appearances in the third tier and the move was looking even more strange.
After just one season at Türkgücü Munich, Irving joined Austrian side SK Austria Klagenfurt in the summer of 2022 and the move has revitalised his career.
The former Hearts gem played 34 games across all competitions during his maiden season and ended up scoring six times and grabbing nine assists in what appeared to be a breakthrough season for the midfielder and this attracted interest from abroad.
His form in the current season led John Walker, who runs the Scots Abroad Twitter page, to laud the 23-year-old, saying: “Deadline Day Rumour.
“Andy Irving will complete a move to Premier League side West Ham Utd.
“23yo, Andy Irving, is one of the best performing Austrian Bundesliga midfielders (5⚽️& 5🅰️ in last 10 apps) just now.
“Expected to rejoin Klagenfurt on-loan this season.”
The rumour turned out to be true as Irving moved to the Premier League side in a deal believed to worth seven figures and it represents a major achievement for a player who was plying his trade in the second tier in Scotland just over three years ago.
How good is Andy Irving?
The midfielder has already notched four goals and four assists over just 12 matches for the Austrian side so far this season, and it looks as though he could be a worthy addition to the West Ham squad.
Indeed, across the current Klagenfurt squad in the league this term, he currently ranks second for goals and assists (six) while also ranking second for shots on target per game (0.7), first for big chances created (three), third for key passes per game (1.1) and third for tackles per game (1.5), indicating how impressive he has been over a wide range of performance metrics.
Another season in Austria will do the youngster the world of good as he gears up to play in the English top flight from the 2024/25 campaign.

Naismith could benefit from having a player contributing these types of numbers to his current squad, and it represents a big transfer howler letting Irving go for nothing two years ago.
Of course, this is not the first time it has happened, and it probably will not be the last, yet Irving’s recent success should be a warning sign to Naismith that he must tie down his most important players to long-term contracts, otherwise he risks the same thing happening in the future.
David Moyes has the eyes for a talented player and Irving will be hoping to repay back his faith when he arrives in England next summer.
Arsenal are back in action this afternoon, as the Gunners travel to Merseyside to battle Everton for three points at Goodison Park.
Mikel Arteta will be hoping that his team can rewrite recent history with today’s visit, as the north Londoners are five games without a win at Goodison, with last season’s 1-0 loss being one of the north London outfit's few poor performances in 2022/23.
Despite having the international break since their last match, Arteta’s side may still be catching their breath after the late dramatics against Manchester United at the Emirates.
At 1-1 heading towards the 90th minute, it looked as though Alejandro Garnacho had won it with one minute to go, however his goal was ruled out by VAR for an extremely tight offside decision.
It quickly went from scenes of jubilation to despair in the away end, as Declan Rice gave Arsenal the lead in the 96th minute, followed by Gabriel Jesus adding the hosts third in the 101st minute of play.
It was a memorable win for the Gunners, but all attention will now be on Everton as they bid to turn their fortunes around at Goodison.
What is the latest Arsenal team news?
During the international break, there was some concern over Bukayo Saka’s fitness, with Gareth Southgate revealing that he didn’t feature against Scotland due to pain in his achilles.
Arteta denied that Saka will be out for the trip to Merseyside, adding that every player has trained as normal following their international duties.
One injury update comes with reference to Thomas Partey, who Arteta revealed is a “few weeks away” with a muscle injury.
Eddie Nketiah led the line once again as Jesus got back to full fitness, however the Englishman could face a battle to start after the Brazilian’s goal and performance last time out.
The 26-year-old isn’t the only one who could challenge the Englishman for a spot this afternoon, with another forward displaying emphatic form of late.
Should Leandro Trossard start against Everton?
One player that shone on international break was January signing Leandro Trossard, who scored a mesmerising goal during Belgium’s win over Estonia in the European Qualifiers.
The 28-year-old has made just two appearances for the Gunners this season, adding to the 20 he made in his debut Premier League season with his new club, in which he scored once and registered 10 assists.
Previously lauded as “clinical” by football analyst Tactics Journal (Kyle Boas), Trossard’s display during the break could have him in contention to start against the Toffees.
The £90k-per-week Belgian has an advantage due to his versatility, where he could be on the cards to usurp either Nketiah or more likely Kai Havertz, who has been poor since moving from west to north London this summer.
Trossard has the play-making ability to play behind the striker where the German has been roaming so far this season, as well as being an accomplished finisher to play more advanced, with him guaranteed to bring a threat regardless of his position.
Considering Everton’s winless campaign so far and Arsenal’s need to win at Goodison, introducing the former Brighton whiz to the fold at this point could be the statement needed to build on the spectacular win against United.
