Burnley have now made an “offer” to a Championship star and have already received a reply, as per Fabrizio Romano.
Burnley thrash Plymouth and prepare for Leeds
Scott Parker’s side were ruthless in the week, putting five past struggling Plymouth Argyle in the first half. Braces from Zian Flemming and Josh Laurent alongside a goal from Josh Cullen ensured that the Clarets head into Monday’s crucial encounter with Leeds United just three points behind the Whites.
Talking after the win in Devon, Parker was full of praise for his side, saying: “I thought we were superb tonight. We came here with a real clear idea and a game plan. We set that up as coaches, it’s down to players to then execute and the players were absolutely first class.
“We needed to come here with a mentality and mindset about us, this is a tough place to come, I know people look at league tables and may see a very different story.
“But a new manager in, an aggressive team, I played against this coach once in Belgium and had some struggles in a sense of how he sets up teams, so I knew the challenge here. We were just ruthless tonight. I thought we had everything about us.”
It has also been a productive month away from the pitch in the transfer market, with Burnley signing Ashley Barnes and Jonjo Shelvey in free transfers, while also landing Oliver Sonne.
More could be on the way before the February 3 deadline, though, with a bid for Plymouth star Morgan Whittaker being tabled earlier this month. Another Championship attacking star is also of interest to those at Turf Moor in West Brom’s Grady Diangana.
Burnley make Diangana “offer” – Romano
According to transfer expert Romano, Burnley have made an “offer” to sign Diangana, who is out of contract at The Hawthorns in the summer.
However, the Baggies star has “turned down” Burnley’s proposal, with Italian outfit Parma and Spanish club Celta Vigo also keen on Diangana’s services.
Called “exceptional” by journalist Jonny Drury in 2023, Diangana has been a West Brom player since 2020 after making his loan move from West Ham permanent.
Capable of playing on either wing or as an attacking midfielder, the 26-year-old is approaching 200 appearances as a Baggies player, however, his days in the Midlands could be numbered going off the recent update.

His next move may not be to Burnley, though, after turning down an offer from the Clarets, so it’ll be interesting to see who those at Turf Moor turn to next as they eye an attacking reinforcement.

O Corinthians precisa melhorar, e o próprio Corinthians sabe disso. Comissão técnica, jogadores, diretoria. Há muito o que evoluir, mas o primeiro ponto necessário para se acertar, que é a defesa, está muito bem, obrigado.

Jack Brooks bit the hand that used to feed him as Somerset gained the upper hand on the second day of the LV= Insurance County Championship match with Yorkshire at Taunton.Facing his former club, the veteran seamer turned back the years with 3 for 38 from ten overs to help restrict them to 167 for 4 in their first innings, 257 runs behind.Tom Kohler-Cadmore hit an unbeaten 68 against the team he will join next season, while Harry Brook was dismissed for 41.Somerset had earlier extended their first-innings score from 262 for 5 to 424 all out, skipper Tom Abell falling for 116, Lewis Gregory making 77 and Kasey Aldridge a career-best 41.Former Somerset off-spinner Dom Bess finished with 4 for 68 and seamer Matthew Waite 3 for 64.The hosts began the day poorly when Abell, having added only two to his score, fell to the second new ball, lbw to a delivery from Waite that thumped into his back pad.Floodlights were on under grey skies as Gregory and Aldridge progressed the innings to 298 for 6 before rain caused a 45 minute delay, with 11 overs overs lost. By lunch, the pair had added a further 26.Gregory reached his half-century with an edged four to third man off Jordan Thompson, having faced 87 balls and hit seven fours.Aldridge grew in confidence from a sketchy start and brought up 350 with an elegant back-foot boundary off Thompson.Gregory smacked Bess for a straight six, but perished trying to repeat the shot, caught at long-on by Adam Lyth with the total on 376.Somerset had settled for four batting points. But Jack Leach dispatched Bess over long-off for six and cleared the ropes again with a reverse sweep off Jack Shutt, who gained revenge by having the England spinner stumped for 16.Brooks was caught behind to give Bess his fourth wicket before Marchant de Lange took six and four off successive balls from Shannon Gabriel.Aldridge was last man out, bowled attempting a big hit off Gabriel, having boosted his reputation with a composed contribution.Adam Lyth began Yorkshire’s reply with two quick boundaries. But, on 13, he drove at Brooks and was picked up at gully by a tumbling Abell.Brooks almost had a second wicket with the total on 36, just failing to hold a low caught and bowled chance, offered by George Hill on 12.Hill didn’t profit for long, advancing to Leach in only his second over and miscuing a running catch to Matt Renshaw at mid-off to make it 55 for two.Kohler-Cadmore had already hit Leach for a straight six and repeated the dose as he and Brook built a half-century stand, off 92 balls.Tall seamer Aldridge produced a tight six-over spell from the Marcus Trescothick Pavilion End. But Brook pulled his replacement, de Lange, over the short leg side boundary as the South African went for 23 from three overs.Leach switched to the same end, only to be dispatched for another six by Kohler-Cadmore. The Yorkshire pair looked in complete control when Brook clipped Brooks off his toes to mid-wicket where Aldridge took a diving catch. The next ball saw Matthew Revis fall lbw on the back foot and suddenly Yorkshire were 129 for 4, with Brooks rampant.Kohler-Cadmore went to fifty off 86 balls, with four fours and four sixes, showing a relish for his future environment. But when bad light ended play two overs early, he faced more important work in the morning.
What will Manchester United do during the January transfer window? Well, it is clear they need reinforcements, given the Red Devils sit 13th in the Premier League with just 26 points to their name so far this term. Their form has been poor, winning just one of their last five games in the top flight.
So, incomings do seem likely for the Red Devils. Patrick Dorgu is one player who is linked with a move to the club, from Italian side Lecce. In terms of attacking additions, Matheus Cunha has been linked to a move to Old Trafford again in the past few days and could leave Wolverhampton Wanderers this month.
Cunha has not been the only attacker linked with a potential move to Old Trafford before the window slams shut at the start of February.
Man United’s attacking target
The Red Devils have been linked with English winger Jamie Gittens in recent days. On the 19th of January, United were believed to be ‘seriously interested’ in the Borussia Dortmund star, according to Florian Plettenberg. English side Chelsea, and German giants Bayern Munich were also believed to be interested in a move, which could happen in the summer.
It is easy to see why a host of the biggest clubs in Europe, including United, are considering making a move for Gittens. He has been sensational for Dortmund this term, with 11 goals and five assists in 26 games in all competitions.
There is one competition in which the Englishman, who is yet to win a cap for his country, has excelled. The 20-year-old has put on a real show in the Champions League, with four goals and an assist in six games, including a strike away to Real Madrid.
Given his impressive performances this term, it is perhaps no surprise that Gittens is now worth around £38m according to Football Transfers’ expected transfer value (xTV) model. However, United actually have an attacker worth even more, and they may want to hold on to him.
The Man United star who is worth more than Gittens
The player in question here is Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine has impressed during his time at United so far since breaking through from the academy. He has 23 goals and 14 assists in 118 games for the Red Devils.
Perhaps the most impressive season from the Argentina international was the 2023/24 campaign. Despite being just 19 years of age, he played with lots of maturity, scoring ten goals and grabbing five assists in 50 appearances.
This term has not been as easy for the winger. He has been a bit part player under new boss Ruben Amorim, in total featuring 32 times. He has eight goals and five assists to his name, an impressive record and not far off Gittens, although he has managed just three goals and one assist in the Premier League.

Some of his underlying numbers via FBref have also been impressive over the past year or so. Garnacho, a confident ball-carrier who will drive at defenders, averages 5.84 progressive carries and 3.4 carries into the penalty box per game. That ranks him in the top 8% and 5% of wingers across Europe’s big five leagues respectively.
So, with that in mind, it might come as a shock to see he is linked with a big-money move away from Old Trafford. As per the Mail, both Chelsea and Napoli are interested in a deal, that could cost them upwards of £65m.
Interestingly, United’s valuation of their star winger is £28m more than Gittens’ expected market value, which perhaps suggests the Red Devils should keep him around instead of moving him on. After all, football statistician Statman Dave believes he is a “generational” talent.
It will be fascinating to see what decision United take on the future of Garnacho. He is clearly a talented player, with copious amounts of money, but at that price, United might not be able to keep hold of him.
Better than Gittens: Man Utd eyeing up move for "unbelievable" PL star
Manchester United could now snap up this sensational attacker instead of Jamie Gittens.
Aston Villa could now see one member of their squad depart in January, according to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, with talks underway over his exit.
Aston Villa win again
Aston Villa continued their recovery under Unai Emery after a tricky period as they edged past Midlands rivals Leicester City at Villa Park.
Goals from Ross Barkley and Leon Bailey proved enough to ensure that the Villans picked up all three points, a result that moved them to just four points outside the top four despite currently sitting eighth in the Premier League. After the game, Emery urged his side to be “proud” of digging out results despite a largely indifferent performance.
Aston Villa in talks over signing striker whose contract expires in January
Unai Emery has said Villa are moving for signings.
ByEmilio Galantini Jan 4, 2025
“We have to be proud of how we are doing, with the difficulties. The difficulties today were that Leicester City were performing well and it is difficult to beat them.
“In the second half, we were getting better and creating chances, not very clear chances but enough to score the two goals like we did.”
One concern for Villa was the injury to John McGinn, who the Villa boss confirmed would now be sidelined for two to five weeks after picking up a hamstring issue that forced him off in the first half of the win over the Foxes.
Villa’s winter plans are unlikely to change though, as they were already expected to be active in the January transfer window, having already seen an offer for forward Donyell Malen rejected by Borussia Dortmund as the German side hold out for a larger fee. Now, they could be set to let a player leave to make room for a new arrival.
Romano reveals Aston Villa forward set to leave
That player comes in the shape of forward Jaden Philogene, who has endured a tough return to Villa Park so far this season.
Re-signed by the club after impressing with Hull City, Philogene has not made an impression on Emery and has only started two Premier League games, having not featured in the top flight in almost a month.

Though his ability was dubbed ‘ridiculous’ by former Hull boss Liam Rosenior, he is yet to show it in the Midlands and now he could depart. Emery himself admitted as such, claiming that “for January, it could be one option for him or for the club to let him leave.”
Now, transfer guru Romano has provided an update on the situation, claiming that the forward is now “expected to leave Aston Villa on loan” and that “talks have already started” about a potential exit.
The forward still has over four years to run on his £40,000-a-week deal at Villa Park, meaning that a loan is only likely to see his value increase. Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town were one of the clubs keen on signing him from Hull City over the summer before Villa exercised their buy-back clause and Kieran McKenna’s could again be keen to sign the talented forward this month.
With another forward seemingly on Emery’s wishlist, a loan move could be just what Philogene needs to rediscover his form.
Barcelona believe that signing Luis Diaz from Liverpool this summer might not be feasible as Al-Nassr are preparing a bid for the Colombian.

According to a report from , Barcelona fear missing out on top transfer target Diaz as they feel that an operation for the Liverpool winger might not be financially possible, especially with recent interest from Saudi Pro League giants Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli.
AdvertisementGetty Images SportTHE BIGGER PICTURE
Barcelona's pursuit of Diaz has slowed due to intense competition and financial issues, including salary cap restrictions. Liverpool are asking for at least €75 million (£64m/$82m), which is considered too high a figure by the Catalans. For a move to Barcelona to remain possible, Diaz would need to push for a lower fee by rejecting offers from the Middle East.
DID YOU KNOW?
In light of these challenges, reports suggest that Barcelona could renew talks with Nico Williams' camp, potentially viewing the Athletic Club talisman as a more attainable target, despite his €60m (£51m/$66m) release clause. However, if Barcelona fail to resolve their VIP seat leasing deal with La Liga, both Diaz and Williams may remain out of reach.

The rise of Cole Palmer has been quite incredible to watch, with the Englishman one of Europe’s most exciting players on current form, combining creativity and scoring in equal measure.
The Chelsea star may be effortlessly talented, gliding across the pitch and always exuding class, but he also has a huge amount of end product, with 29 goals coming his way in 2024. His first season at Stamford Bridge saw him score 22 times in 29 Premier League starts.

Pipping Cole Palmer by playing three fewer games is Liverpool’s star man of the season, Mohamed Salah.
While the Reds’ form saw an underwhelming finish to 2023/24, the Egyptian has been untouchable in the current campaign, which has seen his goals return surge.
Salah entered 2025 having scored in 10 of his last 11 Premier League games, netting 13 times in that timespan. He is the in-form player in the world right now, and continuing his current run will surely lead to team and individual honours galore.

Krzysztof Piatek (Istanbul Basaksehir)
32 goals
Krzysztof Piatek may not be one of the most renowned players on this list, but he has enjoyed a fantastic 12 months for Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir.
The 29-year-old has 32 goals to his name in 2024, with 12 strikes already coming his way in the Super Lig this season, not to mention finding the net nine times in the Conference League qualification and league phases combined.
9
Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid)
32 goals
Vinicius Junior is undoubtedly one of the leading players in world football, and he has enjoyed a superb year, capped by scoring in Real Madrid’s win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final in May.
The 24-year-old has struck 32 times in total across all competitions, proving to be the most devastating left-sided attacking player on the planet, and there is still so much more to come from him in his career.

Jorginho (Differdange 03)
32 goals
Plying his trade at Differdange 03 in Luxembourg, you can be forgiven for not exactly being an expert on their star striker, Jorginho.
His tally of 32 goals in only 35 matches puts him above such world-renowned names as Vinicius and Palmer, showing what a memorable year he has enjoyed in his own right.
7
Ayoub El Kaabi (Olympiacos)
34 goals
Ayoub El Kaabi isn’t the biggest name around, but the year that he has enjoyed with Greek giants Olympiacos is worthy of great respect.
A total of 34 goals in just 39 outings is an incredible ratio, coming at a strike rate of every 89 minutes, which is superior to anyone else ahead of him on the list.
He scored five times across two legs against Aston Villa in the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League and netted the only goal in the final win over Fiorentina, capping a superb year.
6
Jonathan David (Lille)
36 goals
Jonathan David stands out as arguably the best attacking player in Ligue 1, scoring goals for fun at Lille while being Canada’s talisman at international level.
The 24-year-old had the sixth-most goals in Europe across 2024, finding the net 36 times in just 50 appearances, averaging a strike every 112 minutes in the process. Such a consistent performer, he already has 11 goals in 12 Ligue 1 starts this season.
5
Kylian Mbappe(Real Madrid)
37 goals
Kylian Mbappe may still be looking to find top gear in a Real Madrid shirt, but there is no denying that he has once again been one of the world’s best players in 2024, shining for his new club following another trophy-winning campaign at Paris Saint-Germain.
The France superstar pips teammate Vinicius in the goalscoring stakes over the past 12 months, finding the net 37 times in total, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see him even higher on the list this time next year.
4
Erling Haaland (Manchester City)
38 goals
Erling Haaland in action for Manchester City
Erling Haaland might not be in his richest vein of form with Manchester City struggling in the Premier League, but it was another memorable year for one of the best strikers of his generation.
The colossal Norwegian bagged 38 goals in 2024, with his performances helping inspire Pep Guardiola’s side to yet another league title. It’s frightening that he’s still only 24, and City need him back to his best to have any chance of a title surge in the league.

Harry Kane (Bayern Munich)
39 goals
Harry Kane may have received some criticism for his performances for England this year as the Three Lions fell just short at Euro 2024, but it’s impossible to argue with his relentless scoring record.
The 31-year-old has scored 39 times overall, with 14 goals in just 13 Bundesliga appearances so far this season for Bayern Munich showing that he remains a world-class force with plenty still left in the tank.
Ipswich Town have received four permanent offers to sell a versatile forward in the January transfer window, according to a new report.
Ipswich Town transfer rumours
Kieran McKenna and the Tractor Boys completed their second winter window signing on Wednesday evening, with Jaden Philogene following Ben Godfrey through the Portman Road door.
The winger has signed on a permanent transfer from Premier League rivals Aston Villa and put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year deal.
Talking after completing his move, Philogene said: “I’m excited to be here and I know there are great players in the squad. I just want to play as much as possible. As a player I like to dribble and link up play and provide goals and assists. I’m looking forward to it.”

McKenna has hinted that attention will now turn to outgoings, with a loan exit for full-back Harry Clarke a possibility. “There’s a possibility that Harry Clarke will go out on loan. Me and Harry have had those conversations. He’s an important player for us, a very good player. He played through some injury at the back end of last season and had a big surgery in the summer, so he’s missed a few months of football.
“He’s had some minutes now in the Premier League, some exposure. But of course, for his age, as a young defender, it’s important to be getting minutes regularly for his progression and his role at the club. If everything is in a good place in the squad over the next week or two from an availability point of view, then there’s a chance that Harry will go out on loan to get some regular playing time, to keep pushing with his development.”
Permanent exits for some players who are still on the books at Portman Road may also be a possibility, though. Middlesbrough have had a bid turned down for loanee George Edmundson, with Ipswich open to selling at the right piece with the defender out of contract in the summer.
Ipswich Town receive 4 bids for versatile forward
Now, another Ipswich Town player is wanted in a full-time January transfer window exit after impressing out on loan. According to The 17, four clubs have made permanent bids to sign Ipswich Town attacker Osman Foyo.
The 20-year-old has been catching the eye out on loan with Chelmsford City in the National League South which has alerted League One side Crawley Town and League Two trio AFC Wimbledon, Port Vale and Colchester United.
The report states that all our clubs have made permanent bids for Foyo and he is set to join one of the sides ‘in the next 10 days with offers lodged and talks over personal terms taking place’.
Foyo scored 12 goals and provided two assists in 21 National League South games for Chelmsford City, so it’s easy to see why he has caught the eye of a number of EFL outfits.
A versatile forward who can play on the right-wing, left-wing or as an attacking midfielder, Foyo was previously on the books of rivals Norwich City before moving to Ipswich in 2023, as per Transfermarkt.
Now, it looks as if he will depart Portman Road for good without making a single first-team appearance under McKenna.
After suffering a disappointing 2-0 defeat away at Middlesbrough, Tony Mowbray might well have been fearing a potential banana skin clash with Portsmouth as his second game back at the helm of West Bromwich Albion.
The 61-year-old didn’t need to fear anything after all as his Baggies side swept the floor with Portsmouth in devastating fashion in a 5-1 victory, as the Hawthorns masses afterwards sang Mowbray’s praises after such an exhilarating performance.
Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray.
Mowbray had made a number of changes for this contest to try and get a reaction out of his troops, with the decision to play Grady Diangana up top working an absolute treat.
Diangana's stunning performance vs Pompey
This was only the ex-West Ham United attacker’s eighth start of the season in the Championship, and based on what he offered up versus Pompey, he will be a shoo-in for more starts moving forward.
His campaign had been disrupted by injury when Carlos Corberan was still in the building, but under fresh management, Diangana could really kick on and get back to his previous best.
The cool finish above saw Diangana pick up a brace on the day to gift his side a bumper 4-0 lead, with the Congolese ace also turning provider in the one-sided affair with two assists next to his name come full-time.
Praised after the full-time whistle by Mowbray for his ability to “dance on the ball”, it will be intriguing to see if Diangana can put in more breathtaking displays like this in games to come, as the 26-year-old attacker goes about trying to win himself a new contract at the Hawthorns.
Grady Diangana West Brom
No doubt goal-laden performances such as these will ensure contract talks whir into motion, with the potential for Diangana to cause more havoc alongside a new recruit.
West Brom looking at "powerful" striker
As per a new report by Football Mercato – relayed by Sport Witness – West Brom still remain in the hunt to snap up St. Gallen forward Willem Geubbels this window.
But, they may need to move quick in order to strike up a deal with the potent Frenchman as Luton Town are now reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ themselves over winning the 23-year-old’s services.
Regardless of any new developments, the Baggies will presumably try to tempt Geubbels to call the Hawthorns home over Kenilworth Road, with the potential there for an imposing 6 foot 2 striker to form a deadly relationship in attack with a reinvigorated Diangana.
After all, this season playing out in Switzerland, Geubbels has helped himself to a reasonable six goals from 13 league contests, with only an injury-stricken Josh Maja scoring more at 12 in the current Baggies ranks when glancing at the league numbers.

There’s plenty more to be encouraged by when delving deeper into his Swiss Super League statistics too, with a healthy scoring frequency next to his name of every 145 minutes, whilst his tag as a “powerful” attacker – as he has been billed in the past by The Rangers Journal – is also apparent with 3.7 duels won per league game.
In contrast, Diangana – although he can be nippy and direct – comes in just short with 3.6 for the season, with the 26-year-old’s trickery and creativity away from his ability to be imposing meaning Geubbels could immediately hit the ground moving to England.
Whilst losing Corberan was demoralising in the moment, West Brom look to have bounced back now with the popular appointment of Mowbray, who will aim to get even more out of his group after such a fantastic victory on Saturday.

Everton are reportedly planning talks with a club over the signing of a creative “revelation”, with a loan move in the January transfer window mooted.
Everton pushing for January signings
The Blues still look horribly short of attacking quality this season, with Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa in the Premier League once again outlining their lack of threat in the final third. For that reason, it is essential that extra firepower is looked at before the end of the month.
It certainly looks like that is the case, with Everton continuing to be linked with new attacking signings, including young Leicester City striker Tom Cannon, who is wanted by a host of clubs this month.
Willian is a player who the Blues have come up against many times down the years, during stints with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Fulham, and the Brazilian is another rumoured target for them. He is a free agent currently, meaning David Moyes could bring him in on a free transfer in January.
On the flip side, Armando Broja may see his loan deal at Everton terminate this month because of injury, with Moyes admitting as much, saying: “We think he’s going to be out for somewhere between 10-12 weeks. It’s his ankle ligaments. It’ll probably mean there’s a possibility that he will have to go back to Chelsea.”
Everton planning talks over signing "revelation"
According to a fresh claim from Caught Offside, Everton are “preparing to hold talks” with Chelsea over the signing of Kieran Dewsbury-Hall.
The midfielder has been a peripheral figure for the Blues since moving to Stamford Bridge from Leicester last summer, and the possible exit of Broja means the Merseysiders could be afforded the chance to sign him. Ben Chilwell is also mentioned as a loan target – Broja’s exit would only make room for one of them under the league’s loan rules however.

Dewsbury-Hall is exactly the type of player that Everton have been missing this season – someone who can weave creative magic in midfield and attacking areas. The £80,000-a-week Englishman has had a tough season at Chelsea, not starting a single Premier League game and featuring for only 56 minutes in the competition, highlighting why a move away would surely appeal to him.
While Dewsbury-Hall’s stock has fallen after a brilliant 2023/24 campaign with Leicester in the Championship – he got 12 goals and 14 assists in the league last term – he could still be a brilliant addition for Everton, with Brendan Rodgers hailing him back in 2022.
“He’s been a revelation for us. He is a young man that is very determined. He has great human qualities as well. His humbleness, his vision of where he wants to go is very clear and he knows that is just about work. It is staying calm, staying focused and improving yourself every game.”

Dewsbury-Hall would provide Everton with guile and a strong work ethic in the middle of the park, and he will be desperate to prove himself in the Premier League. It’s a move that makes sense for everyone involved.
