Postecoglou delivered the hairdryer treatment to his players during the first half of their clash against a K-League XI on Wednesday afternoon. The game was goalless after 25 minutes when a drinks break afforded the Spurs boss the chance to let his players – including Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson – know exactly what he thought of their efforts in the opening period of the match.

PSG want to sign Victor OsimhenNeed to facilitate exit of Ramos or Kolo-MuaniTalks continue to coolGetty/GOALWHAT HAPPENED?

PSG have been on the hunt for a new signing all summer long, and the club have had their eye on the Napoli duo of Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. While Les Parisiens have pretty much given up on their hope of signing the Georgian, they still remain on the trail of the Nigeria hitman – although talks have cooled.

Per, the Ligue 1 side will have to sell either Gancalo Ramos or Randal Kolo-Muani before proceeding with the signing of the Napoli ace. However, neither forward is ready to accept a departure from the Parc des Princes, and therefore the talks for the transfer of Osimhen have stalled.

Getty ImagesDID YOU KNOW?

It is believed that Osimhen will not continue in Naples, where Chelsea's Romelu Lukaku is a target, but if PSG snooze for too long they could possibly lose out on his signature altogether with the Blues and some Saudi clubs also showing interest in his services.

Rangers plan to accept permanent offer for "talented" £20,000-a-week player

Rangers are ready to kickstart their summer business by allowing one man to leave Ibrox permanently, it has emerged.

Rangers eyeing Scottish Premiership title

In what could yet go down as a memorable season, Rangers are eyeing up just their second Scottish Premiership title since 2011.

The Ibrox outfit had their game postponed over the weekend, which saw Celtic move clear at the top of the Scottish top flight, but they still have to travel to Rangers before the end of the campaign, with a win possibly going a long way to securing the title.

John Lundstram for Rangers.

They also boast the best defensive record in the division and have kept a mammoth 17 clean sheets to date on their way to conceding just 16 goals in 29 games. Europe was a less impressive affair, with the Scottish side bowing out to Benfica courtesy of a 1-0 home defeat, after holding on to an impressive 2-2 draw away from home.

Naturally, the stellar work done by Philippe Clement has led to plenty of speculation on some of their players, but Rangers seem more than willing to part ways with one player this summer as they look to raise funds to continue improving their squad.

Rangers' Barisic replacement plan in tatters after Fabrizio Romano update

It was too good to be true.

ByBen Browning Mar 17, 2024 Sam Lammers transfer update

One man who Rangers won't stop leaving this summer is Sam Lammers, who is currently out on loan in the Eredivisie with Utrecht. The 26-year-old striker never really found his feet at Ibrox following a £3.5m move from Atalanta, scoring just twice in 17 SPL outings.

As per Football Insider, the Ibrox outfit are now planning to accept a permanent offer for Lammers and that 'all signs now point' to his departure from the club, with Clement 'unlikely to change his mind on the forward’s future'.

Having already loaned Fabio Silva from Wolves, Rangers could well have a ready-made replacement should they be able to negotiate a permanent deal for the Portuguese striker, who has already become a firm fan favourite in Glasgow.

Immediately sent out on loan in January, Lammers has found better form in the Netherlands, starting each of Utrecht's 10 Eredivisie games and grabbing 3 goals and 3 assists, including the winner in their most recent outing.

Former Ibrox scout Neil Murray has dubbed Lammers as 'really talented', insisting that former boss Michael Beale didn't do enough to get the best out of him.

"Lammers is a technical player and I actually think a really talented player. If he was given time to play every game as a sort of No 10 off a striker, it would pay dividends. A bit similar to Tom Rogic in a certain way. It’s the manager’s choice. He doesn’t necessarily play him every game but I’d be tempted to do that and give him the run."

However, that talent doesn't appear to be best-suited to Scottish football, and with Clement happy for him to leave for good, a move away seems likely just 12 months after arriving.

Lammers is under contract at Ibrox until 2027, but they are likely to be looking for someone else to take on his £20,000 per week wage from next season.

Delhi's Dhruv Shorey impresses but can't stop Gujarat from making Vijay Hazare semis

With Delhi in trouble early, Shorey dodges almost all his paradoxes to produce a near masterclass but it wasn’t enough in the end

Hemant Brar in Bengaluru20-Oct-2019Dhruv Shorey’s career has been full of paradoxes. When he plays first-class cricket, his attractive strokeplay makes you think he will be better suited for 50-over cricket. When he bats in one-dayers, you wonder he’s probably going a tad slower. A List-A strike rate of 73 backs that observation.Shorey is supposed to be a mainstay of Delhi’s batting. He has a more than decent first-class record but averages in the low 30s in List A cricket with just one hundred from 42 games. At 27, Shorey’s career is yet to fully take off. Still he finds himself leading Delhi in the 2019-20 Vijay Hazare Trophy, and on Sunday, in the middle with his side at 17 for 2 against a rampant Gujarat in the second quarterfinal. What does Shorey do? He dodges almost all the paradoxes to produce a near masterclass.Chintan Gaja had just dismissed Delhi openers Shikhar Dhawan and Anuj Rawat, while Roosh Kalaria had kept things quiet from the other end. But Shorey not only stabilised the innings – along with Nitish Rana – but also accelerated towards the end to finish with a 109-ball 91.But just like his career, this innings too proved to be a paradox. He played a captain’s knock but failed to take his side to a winning total. In the end, Delhi were all out for 223 in 49 overs, and Gujarat chased the VJD-adjusted target of 225 in 37.5 overs with six wickets in hand.Earlier, Dhawan’s lean run with the bat continued. After failing to open his account in the first six balls, he skipped down the track to Gaja only to chip it towards short extra cover. But the fielder there spilled the straightforward chance, the sort of thing you hope for as an out-of-form batsman. But Dhawan failed to take any advantage of that. He sashayed down once again on the next ball, only to splice it towards mid-off this time. Piyush Chawla made no mistake. Four overs later, Rawat tried to do a similar thing and was taken at cover. With the side in trouble, Shorey and Rana decided to bid their time on a two-paced wicket. The team fifty came in the 14th over, and it took Delhi another 14 overs to reach the hundred-run mark. But Shorey batted with a calm demeanour, hitting mostly along the ground and reached his fifty in 67 balls. At the other end, Rana smashed two fours in one Arzan Nagwaswalla over but mostly found it difficult to get the ball off the square. Despite Rana’s struggles, the two had added 90 for the third wicket in 129 balls. It was once again Gaja who provided his side with a wicket. In an attempt to provide momentum to the innings, Rana ended up flicking one straight to short fine leg and was dismissed for 33 off 61.Shorey had moved to 77 off 98 without much fuss before he decided to take on Axar Patel. Using his feet, he lofted the left-arm spinner over wide long-off. Three balls later, when Axar pitched on short, Shorey got down on one knee to sweep-pull it for another six over fine leg. Suddenly, he was on 90 off 102 balls. With Himmat Singh for company, Shorey took Delhi to 150 in the 37th over, with the last 50 runs coming at almost run a ball. The platform was set, the hundred was there for the taking but then the paradox struck again. Or maybe it was just the nervous nineties. After all, last season he was dismissed thrice in the 90s in first-class cricket.Shorey had looked to play in the ‘V’ until then. But in the 38th over, while trying to steer Nagwaswalla towards third man, he ended up edging one to Parthiv Patel. Another unfulfilled promise as Shorey admitted after the match.”I should have stayed there till the end,” Shorey said. “Initially the wicket was doing a bit but after I got settled, it appeared a very good wicket to bat on. But the way I got out, or Nitish got out, it was a little disappointing. Maybe on this wicket, we could have gone on till the 45th over to pace our innings as anything around 270-280 or 300 would have been a good total.”A brief shower in the 40th over further disrupted Delhi’s momentum and when the teams returned – with the match reduced to 49 overs per side – the lower-order batsmen couldn’t do much against Chawla’s guile.Parthiv and Priyank Panchal then got Gujarat off to a quick start, with the former happily feasting on the buffet of short balls served by the Delhi seamers. Delhi’s fielding didn’t help their cause either. Panchal was on 28 when Rana dropped a sitter at mid-on, while wicketkeeper Rawat failed to grab an inside edge off Parthiv with the batsman on 57.The two added 150 in just 23.1 overs to make light work of the chase. Though Delhi struck back, by then there were not enough runs left to make a match out of it. Only if Shorey had stayed in there for a little longer, but that’s how his career has been so far.

Maxwell's bowling helps Australia make their balancing act work

The allrounder chipped in handily with the bat, but it was his ten overs that most aided Aaron Finch against Sri Lanka to leave Australia sitting at the top of the table

Andrew McGlashan16-Jun-2019Australia are finding a way. As the group stage of the World Cup nears its halfway mark the defending champions are at the top of the table. They face Bangladesh next and if they win it will take them to 10 points, which could already be enough for a semi-final spot before the tougher challenges of New Zealand and England. The match against Sri Lanka, won by 87 runs after they quelled an early onslaught by the openers, ended a run of four matches in ten intense days for Australia as they dodged the rain which dogged the last week of the tournament. None of the wins have been perfect, even the ultimately comfortable margin of the latest success coming with further questions about the middle order. Still, they are digging deep into their resources having been forced to rejig the side in the absence of Marcus Stoinis. The century for Aaron Finch and four-wicket haul for Mitchell Starc took the headlines on Saturday, but the all-round performance of Glenn Maxwell was a crucial part of ensuring the holes that remain in the Australia side did not prove pivotal. His 46 off 25 balls meant that while the final total was probably 20 runs light of where it could have been, momentum was not totally lost at the death.WATCH on Hotstar (India only) – Maxwell’s rapid 46Then, perhaps more importantly given the questions of balance, he was able to bowl his ten overs for 46 runs despite Sri Lanka having a terrific platform to build on. That might say more about the issues in Sri Lanka’s batting, but the use of Maxwell’s bowling – which he had the opportunity to use extensively during his time with Lancashire earlier in the season – has been one of the significant developments in Australia’s one-day side over the last few months.Until March he had not bowled his full 10 overs in an ODI since 2015 – the year he was played as Australia’s lone spinner for the majority of their successful World Cup campaign – with Steven Smith preferring Travis Head’s offspin in the last couple of years of his captaincy. Now he has sent down his quota four times in his last 14 matches, three times going for less than fifty. In this match, he bowled 15 dot balls to Dimuth Karunaratne who could only strike at 71 against him and of the batsmen to face more than one delivery from him, only Kusal Mendis could take him for a run-a-ball. There was no need for Finch or Smith to take their net bowling into the middle.Wicketless, but Glenn Maxwell sent down ten important overs•Getty Images”I think Smithy obviously rated Heady’s bowling a little bit more, and that’s fine. That happens. That’s an on-the-day decision. I think [Maxwell] has done really well when he’s had the opportunity,” Finch said. “He was a big part of us reining it in today. Two lefties, he had a nice breeze to bowl with, to across, which allowed him to drift the ball quite a bit which made it – made it, he could shut down one side of the ground a bit easier.”With a decision being made on Stoinis before the next match – and Mitchell Marsh waiting in the wings – Australia’s XI for the Bangladesh game will be interesting given they will have a seam-bowling allrounder to again pick from if needed. The last two matches have seen them go with four quicks, leaving Adam Zampa and Nathan Lyon on the sidelines. The attack continues to lean very heavily on Starc and Pat Cummins – currently the top two wicket-takers in the tournament – and the next few days is a chance for them to catch their breath with Australia’s final four group matches spread over the last two weeks of qualifying. There may even be the chance for some rotation if things continue to go to plan ahead of the semi-finals, but Starc does not want to be part of that.”We spoke about that before this fixture and wanted to give as much as we could to get the result then have a little bit more relaxed back end to the tournament where we can perhaps have a few more training days or if we need some days we can factor that in as well,” he said. “Ultimately is not up to me but it’s a World Cup and you have to pick your best XI depending on the conditions and opposition but I definitely won’t be putting up my hand up to rest.”Having been Player of the Tournament in 2015, Starc is again proving a World Cup trump card with a five-wicket and four-wicket haul already under his belt. “For me I just try to keep my white-ball game very simple,” he said. “I don’t have all these variations. I’m pretty clear on what I want to do whether it’s new ball, old ball or through the middle.”What I’ve added is able to play different roles against different teams or in different conditions. I might go for more runs but I’m there to make a breakthrough in short, sharp spells. That’s something that has stayed consistent in my one-day cricket. Whether my game suits that, I don’t know. Test cricket is still the pinnacle but the fact I’ve kept my game plan pretty simple in white-ball cricket has kept me in good stead through World Cups and when times haven’t gone so well.”Top of the table with the leading wicket-taker and leading run-scorer is a handy position to be in. Have Australia convinced they can be champions again? Perhaps not, but while they keep winning that doesn’t really matter.

'Structural changes' need to be made at RCB – Kirsten

The coach pointed to two losses in particular within the first fortnight of this IPL, which affected Royal Challengers’ whole season

Saurabh Somani in Bengaluru03-May-2019It’s been a familiar story for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2019. Start the season full of promise and fire, stumble from one defeat to the next, end it to avoid finishing at the bottom. In the auctions before IPL 2019, the franchise spent most of its purse on Shimron Hetymyer and Shivam Dube – a combined INR 9.20 crore (USD 1,330,000 approx.). They’ve both played only four games each out of 13 so far, and their purchase for big sums followed by limited opportunities is symptomatic of what, from the outside, seems another season without clear direction. It’s not been an easy ship to steer for Gary Kirsten, one of the two designated coaches for the franchise, with Ashish Nehra. Kirsten had come on board as a batting consultant in IPL 2018, in which Royal Challengers finished sixth. The year before that, they finished at the bottom. Given the run of poor performances – they have won a combined 13 out of 41 games in three seasons – Kirsten acknowledged that fundamental changes might be needed.”There are some structural changes that need to be made that have maybe been around for quite a long time,” Kirsten said in Bengaluru on Friday. “This is my first year as the head coach, so I’ve got a better understanding of what those are. We’ll certainly discuss with our owners and look into that for next year.”It’s been a disappointing season. Obviously we would have liked to have had better results. I’ve been very encouraged with the second half of the season, since we only got two points in the first half. But we’ve won four of our last seven games, and one of them was a rained-out game. So that’s kind of back to the kind of consistency you need. We started to really get things going in the second half, but unfortunately, in IPL if you have a bad start you’re always going to be struggling.”Kirsten pointed to two losses in particular within the first fortnight of the tournament, which affected Royal Challengers’ whole season.”Two big games that cost us that we should have won at the beginning of the season was [against] Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders here,” Kirsten said. “We lost both those games having played really good cricket for 95% of the game. Literally in 12 balls the game changed… in six balls. Those kind of games, if you’re not winning them, they start to affect you big time during the season, because we know that IPL is incredibly unpredictable and games that you should be winning, you need to win.”If you are on the back foot early and you have lost most of your games in the first half, you get into trouble in the second half. We have tried to pull it back. I thought we did a reasonably good job in pulling it back in the second half, but it is always going to be tough winning seven out of seven.”Even as he foresaw operational changes in the franchise, Kirsten hoped the playing core would be exempt, though he admitted Royal Challengers were still searching for a group of players they could come back to, year after year.”I’ve always been a fan – as I’m sure all the coaches are in this IPL – of continuity. You want to try and build your core of players and build a culture where you can keep coming back to the same players,” Kirsten explained. “I think the most successful franchises in IPL have done that. We’re searching for that in RCB. While there might be some structural change next year, I’m hopeful and confident we’ll have some continuity in our players.”Because we need to really start building a core of players that we believe in, and back them. I think the franchises that do a lot of chopping and changing every year run into problems. Because IPL is not about an individual performing every IPL, that’s just not going to happen. But if you keep backing guys they are going to come good for you in one season.”The last league game for the team, against Sunrisers Hyderabad at home on Saturday, will be one that Royal Challengers will play without even the mathematical possibility of a playoff spot. The practical possibility had disappeared some time back, and Virat Kohli has reiterated before every game that the team is just looking to enjoy playing the game. However, that enjoyment is tough to channel amid losses.”My view is you are only having fun when you are winning,” Kirsten said with a smile. “I understand the point he (Kohli) is making but it is always tough when you are not winning games. The IPL is an incredibly intense competition. In my view, in domestic T20 cricket around the world, there is nothing even remotely like it and I think all the players feel the pressure, especially guys who are new to the IPL, they come here with their eyes wide open. They cannot believe how intense the games are. Senior players feel that pressure as well.”

Weekly Wonderkid: New York Red Bulls starlet Julian Hall already on the radar of Chelsea, Man City and Real Madrid

The teenager already has MLS experience on his resume, and some of the world's best are watching on

It's wild what Julian Hall has accomplished. Just 16 years old, he already has his MLS debut under his belt. He has a second game on his resume, too. Thus far, despite his age and inexperience, nothing has been able to stop his rise.

Well, maybe one thing. Until recently, Hall was unable to play at night due to New Jersey Labor Laws. That's been just about the only thing that's slowed him down, though. And, as his rise has begun, the world has started to watch on.

Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich… the list of suitors is just starting to form. More will likely line up in the years to come if Hall continues on this trajectory. But he knows he's just getting started. His path towards the top is just beginning.

"I'm on Twitter and see these things going around, but hearing those clubs, what comes to mind is that I grew up watching those teams," he told GOAL. "I try not to get into all of the rumors, but it's crazy to me how those names are all there."

Insta: julianhall_What he's done

Hall's big moment came last September, and it promises to be the first of many.

With the Red Bulls trailing the Chicago Fire, head coach Troy Lesesne turned to Hall. He was being asked to change the game, despite being just 15 years old at the time. By featuring in that match, Hall became the second-youngest player in MLS history. The only one younger? Freddy Adu.

"I wouldn't say there were nerves," Hall toldGOAL, "which is pretty surprising. I definitely just couldn't believe that I was on the field. It was really surreal to me. It took me a while to even feel like I was playing in the game. It was definitely one of the best feelings I've ever experienced and hopefully, I can continue with that."

In the months since, Hall has been in and around the first team. He made an 11-minute appearance against Inter Miami earlier this year but has largely starred for the Red Bulls' second team in MLS NEXT Pro. Part of the reason why is that, until his 16th birthday on March 24, Hall was unable to "work" in the evenings due to New Jersey labor laws, ruling him out of several MLS matches.

AdvertisementWhy he's here

Hall is a player who can play all across the attack, but he is primarily a left-winger. In that position, Hall has the ability to beat defenders and, more importantly, make things happen in the final third.

"I think being an attacking threat is a huge part of being an attacker," he says, "but I have so much to learn. I have great role models at the club to help me to keep improving every day. Nothing is final yet, of course, but there are always things that I can improve on."

New Red Bulls boss Sandro Schwarz said in preseason that Hall still had some work to do as he adjusts to the professional game, as can be expected from a 16-year-old. At the moment, though, Hall is clearly on the right path as he inches closer to more first-team minutes.

(C)GettyImagesWho he reminds us of

It's still very, very early in Hall's career. Projecting out his future is almost impossible. He has so much growing to do, both mentally and physically. The teenager does have players that he studies, though, including two of La Liga's best.

"I watch Robert Lewandowski," Hall said, "but there are so many wingers out there like Vinicius that are so direct. They know what they want to do with the ball before they get it. They're just really smart. It's all just based on IQ."

What's next

With the whole labor law thing in the past, Hall is free to push for first-team minutes.

"Getting a good amount of minutes this season would be amazing," he said.

"I think it's all changed a lot after last year. I never really got the high school experience. I never really attended high school before, but there was a pretty big chunk of teenage life that got away a bit, but it's all been taken out for a good reason now: my development and for me to have a career in this sport."
