Postecoglou Set For Transfer Talks With 29 y/o Spurs Star

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane will sit down with the expected new Spurs boss, Ange Postecoglou, to hold talks over where his future lies in north London.

Who is Ange Postecoglou?

The managerial search in N17 is seemingly coming to a close with Daniel Levy believed to have found his man in the Celtic manager Postecoglou.

Indeed, reports have suggested the Australian has now agreed personal terms with the Premier League club just hours after completing the treble with the Bhoys.

It is now believed that it is only the final details which will need to be ironed out with Celtic to overcome in order to see the 57-year-old become the new manager at Spurs.

However, Postecoglou has a huge task on his hands as the Lilywhites appear to be in need of a major rebuild following a dreadful 2022/23 campaign.

And one of the major issues hanging over the club at the moment is the future of their star player, Harry Kane, who has just one year remaining on his current deal.

With the Australian now looking set to become the new Spurs boss, Fabrizio Romano has told his YouTube channel that Postecoglou will hold behind-the-scenes talks with Kane in an attempt to keep him:

"But what is very clear also is that Daniel Levy is still prepared to fight for Harry Kane. He will try once he will have a new manager, conversations will take place with Postecoglou to convince Harry Kane, to keep Harry Kane at the club. So Tottenham will try again in the next days."

Could Kane leave Spurs?

The England captain's future appears to be at a real crossroads this summer with a number of clubs believed to be interested amid his dwindling contract.

Indeed, it is believed the likes of Manchester United have identified him as a priority signing for the summer window as Erik ten Hag searches for a new striker.

However, interest from abroad has also increased over recent days with reports suggesting Real Madrid will look to Kane as their potential replacement for the departing Karim Benzema.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou

Two of the world's biggest clubs could, therefore, be on the hunt for Kane's services this summer but it seems Spurs are not willing to potentially lose him without a fight.

But is Postecoglou a big enough name to convince Kane to stay?

The Australian has enjoyed a brilliant spell at Parkhead having won a bag full of trophies over his two years in the job.

However, this potential move to north London would be the 57-year-old's first job in one of Europe's top five leagues which could leave a lot of uncertainty for the England captain.

Kane will turn 30 years old over the coming weeks and whether he is willing to invest his time in this expected rebuild at Spurs under a manager who is not proven at this level is yet to be seen.

Wolves Linked With Summer Move For 20-Year-Old Star

Agent Jorge Mendes is pushing Barcelona youngster Ansu Fati to join Wolves during the summer transfer window, according to a new report.

Has Fati been linked with Wolves move?

The Wanderers ultimately had a disappointing season in the Premier League, but things still panned out better than they could have done at one point. Julen Lopetegui came in and saved what looked like a potentially sinking ship, steering his side clear of the relegation zone in the process.

The key now is moving on from a campaign to forget overall and focusing on the future, starting with making some important new signings this summer. The hope is that Lopetegui's pedigree as a manager will help aid the club in the transfer market, allowing them to entice some top players to Molineux.

One such individual is Fati, who has been linked with a move to Wolves a number of times in recent months, with his Barca future up in the air. He struggled to be a key man under Xavi in 2022/23, starting only 12 La Liga games, and the club seem willing to part ways, even though his current deal doesn't expire until 2027.

Ansu Fati in action for Barcelona.

Could Wanderers switch still happen this summer?

According to Sport [via Sport Witness], Barca are "working against the clock" to sell Fati in the summer transfer window, no longer seeing him as a key figure at the club, despite bursting onto the scenes as a hugely exciting teenager.

His agent, Mendes, "pushes to convince" the Spaniard that Wolves is the right club for him to move to, in what is described as a "key operation" at Barca, which would include Ruben Neves heading the other way in a swap deal. Fati "now officially knows" that he is allowed to leave, which could essentially force him out of the door, but it remains to be seen where he will end up.

The seven-cap Spain international could be a great signing by Wanderers this summer, not to mention an addition of serious intent, considering his standing in the game. Granted, his stock has fallen a little of late, having not been a regular for Barca, but he remains a great young talent – one who has been described as "magic" by teammate Eric Garcia.

He could become the new darling of Molineux, wreaking havoc out on the left wing and raising the level of those around him – he has scored 28 goals in 108 appearances for Barca – although whether he wants to join a team playing in Europe could be an issue, and scupper Wolves' hopes in the process.

Agbonlahor Baffled By Tottenham Offering New Deal To £85k-p/w Dud

Tottenham Hotspur's decision to offer a new contract to Eric Dier has been criticised by talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor, in a recent interview with Football Insider.

What's the latest Tottenham transfer news?

According to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham have opened talks with Dier about a new contract, and the club are keen to finalise a new three-year deal with the defender soon, regardless of who they appoint as their new manager.

Not only are Spurs keen to tie Dier down to a new deal, they are determined to sign Barcelona loanee Clement Lenglet on a permanent basis, and negotiations have already begun, with the Spanish club keen to hold out for €15m (£13.3m).

The Lilywhites have also been linked to Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, with reports indicating they are one of the front-runners for the centre-back's signature, and Agbonlahor believes he would be a very good addition to the squad.

However, in an interview with Football Insider, the pundit is very critical of the decision to offer Dier a new deal, while he also indicates Lenglet should not be signed permanently, saying:

“Eric Dier, I don’t understand why there are talks over a new contract for him.

“Romero is the sort of player who would be on his last chance with me if I was manager. He just wants to kick everyone. He knows he’s going to get sent off, but still does it.

“I think Spurs need three centre-backs.

“Guehi can be one of them, but I’d go out and get more. Lenglet and Ben Davies are not good enough either.

Should Eric Dier be offered a new deal?

Tottenham have a very poor defensive record this season, so it is very surprising they are so eager to keep hold of their current options at centre-back, with Dier "nowhere near the required level", according to journalist Ryan Taylor.

While the decision to offer the £85k-per-week defender fresh terms is unusual, it is even more alarming Spurs are willing to bring Lenglet to the club on a permanent basis, given that he is one of the club's worst-performing players, according to Sofascore.

Even Cristian Romero has been criticised in recent weeks, so it is evident the Lilywhites will need to bolster their defensive options in the summer, with Guehi emerging as a solid potential option.

At 22-year-old, the Palace defender is at the right age to be a long-term success with Tottenham, and he has been hailed as "genuinely exceptional" by members of the media.

Leeds Must Unleash £35m-Rated "Spark" Today

Leeds United will be hoping to end their recent run of four Premier League games without a win with victory over AFC Bournemouth later today, with Javi Gracia's men still very much in a scrap for survival with a matter of weeks left in the season.

The Whites' hopes of avoiding the drop have been dealt a blow, however, amid the news that summer signing Luis Sinisterra is out for the remainder of the campaign with an ankle injury, the Colombian international having only just begun to hit form with three goals in his last five league appearances.

That frustrating injury setback has dealt the Leeds boss a real headache for the trip to the Vitality Stadium, albeit with it perhaps an opportune time for young Wilfried Gnonto to come back into the fold, with the Italy international having failed to start any of the last six top-flight games.

Will Gnonto start against Bournemouth?

That lack of action for the 19-year-old has been something of a mystery to both fans and pundits alike, with journalist Pete O'Rourke notably suggesting that maybe the former FC Zurich man simply "doesn't have the trust" of his manager, while pundit Gabby Agbonlahor even went as far as to suggest that the teenager is "overrated".

While the youngster's goal record has been somewhat underwhelming this term – with just two goals and three assists to his name in 19 league games – it is difficult to agree that the dynamic ace is 'overrated', having been "sorely missed" in the side of late, according to O'Rourke.

The fact that the £35m-rated ace was not even able to make it off the bench last time out against Leicester City could suggest that something is amiss, despite the fact that Gracia has since hailed him as an "exceptional player".

Leeds United's Wilfried Gnonto

As the aforementioned Agbonlahor stated, it could be time for Gnonto to show he is "worth the hype" by impressing from the start against the Cherries, with the ten-cap ace having previously offered a real "spark" off the bench in the reverse fixture, according to former boss Jesse Marsch.

That 4-3 win saw the diminutive ace prove a real livewire after replacing Jack Harrison at the break, having notably registered three key passes from his 20 touches on the day, including providing the assist for the game's winning goal.

That stellar impact earned the £20k-per-week speedster hefty praise from Leeds Live's Beren Cross, with the respected insider awarding him an 8/10 match rating, while stating: 'Everything apart from a goal. Picked up where he left off at Anfield. Tenacious, quick, snappy, strong, intelligent. The carry and assist for the winning goal was outstanding.'

Such a sensational cameo showed why Gnonto is a player that has "that X-Factor about him", according to writer Casey Evans, with Gracia seemingly set to miss a trick yet again if he does not unleash the 5 foot 7 dynamo today.

Manchester United: Reporter Shares Fresh Takeover Update

Revised bids to buy Manchester United, one of which was from Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani, look set to fall short of the Glazers’ valuation.

What’s the latest on the Old Trafford takeover?

Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe appear to be the main contenders when it comes to a takeover, with both parties making second bids after a mix-up last week. Respective teams of the pair asked for an extension after missing the deadline on Wednesday, with Ratcliffe’s fresh proposal going in 24 hours later on Thursday and news of Jassim’s second offer emerging on Saturday morning.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth believes that any sale will be for a world-record fee, and an update has emerged on those second offers. ESPN reporter Rob Dawson shared news he’s heard out of Old Trafford in the last 24 hours regarding a takeover. He stated that revised bids ‘will fall short of the Glazer family's valuation, although there is still hope a buyout can happen’.

Dawson added that bids ‘have been increased from around £4.5bn but remain below the asking price of around £6bn', so the improved bids comfortably surpass the record £3.7bn Denver Broncos takeover in the NFL. He says there is 'hope that the Glazers might still accept a compromise fee to allow a takeover at Old Trafford.’ Red Devils staff have been told to expect 'clarity' when it comes to the ownership situation by the end of the season.

What would a Qatari takeover mean?

It looks as if the proposals on the table from the Qatari investors and Ratcliffe have already eclipsed the current world record for a sports team which stands at a $4.65bn sale for the Denver Broncos last year.

Jassim is thought to be confident of winning the race to take control at Old Trafford, and should he do just that, the club could be in for a busy few months in the transfer market. Earlier this year, the Qatari group wanted 'things done quickly' so they could help Erik ten Hag when it comes to new signings, with reports suggesting last week that Jassim is a huge fan of Jude Bellingham and is looking at a stunning move.

Both Jassim and Ratcliffe will now have to remain patient and await what the Glazers have to say to their proposals, but even though the offers could be rejected, it seems as if a complete takeover in 2023 could still be on the cards, making this a situation to keep an eye on alongside maters on the pitch.

Liverpool have to pay ‘ridiculous’ fee for target

talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor says that the reported £70m price tag for Liverpool transfer target Alexis Mac Allister is ‘ridiculous’.

The Lowdown: Liverpool interest

As per Football Insider, Liverpool have registered their interest in signing Mac Allister this summer, with ‘sources’ close to the Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder claiming that he is ‘ready to go’ to a ‘bigger’ club.

However, Brighton do not want to sell the FIFA World Cup winner for less than their £70m asking price.

The Latest: ‘Ridiculous’

Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor claims that the £70m asking price for Mac Allister is ‘ridiculous’ and ‘silly’, and in spite of how good of a player that he is, he is not worth that much:

“I don’t think Mac Allister is worth £70million.

“To me, he’s a £30-40million player. I think these numbers are getting silly now.

“Anyone who has a good season is instantly a £70-100million player.

“I think it’s ridiculous.

“Yes, he’s had a good season with Brighton and he’s won the World Cup with Argentina.

“But I feel that £70million is far too expensive. Liverpool are in need of midfielders, though, and that could price them out of some transfers.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/liverpool-transfer-news-and-rumours/” title=”Liverpool Transfer News and Rumours” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/cropped-2021-03-07T155652Z_1459311687_UP1EH3718ASBK_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LIV-FUL-REPORT.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Have to pay a premium…

Unfortunately with the way that transfer fees are becoming more inflated by the year, with the Premier League recording a record spend in the January transfer window, clubs have to pay a premium if they want to sign quality players like Mac Allister.

Brighton are also renowned for getting top fees for selling players, and so would be tough negotiators in terms of barging from their asking price.

Thus, Liverpool may just to have to bite the bullet with this one, with their need for new midfielders apparent.

After scoring and assisting in the 4-0 thumping of West Ham United on Saturday afternoon, Mac Allister now has eight goals and one assist in total over all competitions so far this season, and at 24 years of age, would offer fresh legs and an ideal alternative to the ageing James Milner and Jordan Henderson.

Leeds takeover a ‘very real possibility’

There is a ‘very real possibility’ of Leeds United’s proposed takeover by 49ers Enterprises happening this summer, journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed.

The Lowdown: 49ers rumours ongoing

For some time now, rumours have suggested that the 49ers will gain a majority share in the Whites, leading to them becoming the club’s new owners.

Back in January 2021, they increased their share to 30%, strengthening their grip in the process, and it has since grown to 44% as time has passed.

Now, a new update further suggests that it won’t be long until the 49ers are Leeds’ official new owners.

The Latest: Summer takeover on the cards

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jacobs claimed that this summer could see the takeover go through, in what would be a major development:

“49ers Enterprises are fully committed to Leeds and to a full takeover. It’s really just a case of when.

“Sources have always indicated that staying up or going down won’t necessarily alter the timescale, so there is still a very real possibility that will get done over the summer.

“But there are just so many moving parts at the moment that we’re going to have to wait and see how the season plays out before the picture becomes clearer.”

The Verdict: Exciting period at Leeds

The hope is that this situation can go through as quickly and as seamlessly as possible, allowing Leeds to kick on as a club and ensure that it doesn’t act as a distraction on the pitch.

[freshpress-quiz id=“418869″]

Avoiding relegation from the Premier League is absolutely imperative – they hovered around the drop zone for some time now – and if the Whites manage that and get new owners in during the summer, the future could look extremely bright.

Perhaps the biggest positive regarding the takeover would be Leeds’ increased financial clout, allowing more funds to be available for signings, as well as potentially redeveloping Elland Road.

Rangers must unleash Todd Cantwell

Glasgow Rangers continued their fine start under Michael Beale in midweek, securing a routine 3-0 victory with many claiming the performance to be the best under his leadership so far.

With nine wins from ten matches since replacing Giovanni van Bronckhorst in November, Beale has rejuvenated Rangers and given them an injection of confidence. However, reeling in their Glasgow arch-rivals – who are nine points ahead at the summit of the Premiership table – could prove a bridge too far, but the two domestic cups will certainly be eyed.

With matches coming thick and fast over the next few months, squad rotation will be key, and Beale may well switch up his starting XI ahead of the match against Ross County this afternoon, as he must fully unleash one of his January signings…

Todd Cantwell was one of two additions to the squad during the January transfer window, alongside Nicolas Raskin, and the former Norwich midfielder has already made a solid impression at Rangers. The 24-year-old – who was dubbed “exciting to watch” by journalist David Freezer – started against St Johnstone at Ibrox last weekend in the Light Blue’s straightforward 2-0 victory.

As per Sofascore, he enjoyed a solid if unspectacular debut, taking 55 touches while achieving an 88% pass success rate during his 63 minutes on the pitch, and it was pleasing to see a new midfielder in the team.

Against Hearts in midweek, he came off the bench with just 14 minutes left and left a positive imprint on the team which should convince Beale to unleash him from the start against Ross County today.

The Englishman achieved a Sofascore rating of 7/10 for his cameo against the Jam Tarts while taking 25 touches, completing 90% of his passes, winning 100% of his duels and making one key pass, giving Rangers that add a bit of spark in the final quarter of the match.

The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell was full of praise for Cantwell afterwards as he took to Twitter to discuss his performance, saying: “Cantwell has been superb since he came on. Nearly every time he has got on the ball he has dribble past someone or produced a lovely pass.”

Rangers are riding on a wave of confidence at the moment, and everyone seems to be buying into Beale’s philosophy.

Cantwell appears to have settled in at Ibrox with ease, and his impressive cameo against Hearts may just have earned him a start this afternoon.
